Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

    • The Air Bag Warning indicator flashes 7 times.
    • If the driver seat belt is unbuckled, the audio alarm sounds for 4 - 8 seconds.
    • The Brake Warning Indicator is on for 3 - 5 seconds.
    • Charge Warning Indicator comes on.
    • The engine coolant gauge shows the coolant temperature.
    • The Fasten Belts Indicator comes on until the driver seat belt is buckled.
    • The fuel gauge increases approximately ½ scale above the current level, and then shows the current fuel level.
    • The Oil Level indicator is on for 3 - 5 seconds. If the oil level is low, then the indicator stays on.
    • The Oil Pressure Warning indicator is on.
    • The Air Bag Warning indicator is inoperative. The indicator remains illuminated or continues to flash after flashing 6 times. Refer to SIR Diagnostic System Check in SIR.
    • The Fasten Belts Warning Indicator does not work properly. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Audible Warnings .
    • Brake Warning Indicator inoperative. Refer to Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative in Hydraulic Brakes.
    • Brake Warning Indicator always on. Refer to Brake Warning Indicator Always On in Hydraulic Brakes.
    • Charge Warning indicator does not work properly. Refer to Charge Indicator Inoperative in Engine Electrical.
    • All gauges, and indicators inoperative, except turn signals, high beam, seatbelt indicators and illumination lamps. Refer to Instrument Cluster Indicators and Gauges Inoperative .
    • Coolant Temperature Gauge inoperative of inaccurate. Refer to Engine Coolant Temperature Gage Inaccurate or Inoperative
    • Coolant Temperature Warning indicator does not work properly. Refer to Engine Coolant Temperature Indicator Inoperative
    • Fuel Gauge inoperative or inaccurate. Refer to Fuel Gage Inaccurate or Inoperative
    • Oil Level indicator does not come on with ignition in run. Refer to Low Engine Oil Level Indicator Inoperative
    • Oil Level indicator does not come on with low oil level. Refer to Low Engine Oil Level Indicator Inoperative
    • Oil Level indicator on, oil level OK. Refer to Low Engine Oil Level Indicator Always On
    • Oil Pressure Warning indicator is not on with ignition in run, engine not running. Refer to ENGINE OIL PRESSURE Message Inoperative .
    • Oil Pressure Warning indicator stays on with the engine running and normal oil pressure. Refer to ENGINE OIL PRESSURE Message Always On .

Leave the ignition switch in the RUN position.

    • The shift selector P indicator is on.
    • The Service Engine Soon indicator is on.
    • The speedometer shows 0 mph (0 km/h).
    • The tachometer shows 0 RPM.
    • The Low Traction indicator is on for approximately 3 seconds.
    • The TCS indicator is on for approximately 3 seconds.
    • Low Coolant Warning is on for approximately 3 seconds.
    • The ABS indicator is on for approximately 3 seconds.
    • Shift selector does not operate properly. Refer to PRNDL Display Inaccurate or Inoperative
        .
    • Service Engine Soon indicator does not come on with ignition in RUN and engine not running. Refer to SERVICE VEHICLE SOON Message Inoperative .
    • Service Engine Soon indicator remains on or flashes. Refer to SERVICE VEHICLE SOON Message Always On .
    • Speedometer Gauge and/or odometer inoperative or inaccurate. Refer to Speedometer and/or Odometer Inaccurate
    • Tachometer gauge inoperative of inaccurate. Refer to Tachometer Inaccurate
    • Low Traction indicator inoperative. Refer to Low Traction Indicator Inoperative
    • Illumination lamps, turn signals, high beam, and seat belt indicators inoperative, except other indicators and gauges. Refer to Instrument Cluster Illumination Lamps Inoperative .
    • Door Ajar indicator on at all times. Refer to DOOR AJAR Message Always On .
    • Door Ajar indicator inoperative. Refer to DOOR AJAR Message Inoperative .
    • Low Engine Coolant Indicator Aways On. Refer to Low Engine Coolant Indicator Always On .
    • Low Engine Coolant Indicator Inoperative. Refer to Low Engine Coolant Indicator Inoperative .
    • The ABS indicator is inoperative or remains on. Refer to Diagnostic System Check in Antilock Brake System.

  1. Set the left hand turn signal to the on position.
  2. Set the left hand turn signal to the OFF position.
  3. Set the right hand turn signal to the ON position.
  4. Set the right hand turn signal to the OFF position.
  1. The left hand signal and the indicator flash.
  2. The left hand signal and the indicator turn off.
  3. The right hand signal and the indicator flash.
  4. The right hand signal and the indicator turn off.

Turn indicators do not operated properly. Refer to Turn Signal Indicator Inoperative - Left Side

  1. Turn the headlamp switch to the HEAD position. Set the headlamp dimmer switch to the HIGH position.
  2. Turn the headlamp switch to the OFF position.
  1. The high beams and the High Beam indicator come on.
  2. The high beams and the High Beam indicator turn off.

High Beam indicator inoperative. Refer to High Beam Indicator Inoperative

  1. Apply the parking brake.
  2. Release the parking brake.
  1. The Parking Brake indicator turns on.
  2. The Parking Brake indicator turns off.
    • Brake Warning indicator does not come on when parking brake is set. Refer to Primary Brake Indicator or Alarm Inoperative When Park Brake is Set .
    • Brake Warning indicator does not come on with low brake fluid. Refer to Primary Brake Indicator or Alarm Inoperative with Low Brake Fluid .
    • Brake Warning indicator inoperative. Refer to Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative in Hydraulic Brakes.
    • Brake Warning indicator is always on. Refer to Brake Warning Indicator Always On in Hydraulic Brakes.

  1. Turn the headlamp switch to the PARK position.
  2. Adjust the instrument panel dimmer switch to the following settings:
  3. • The OFF position
    • Maximum brightness
  1. The instrument cluster lights turn on.
  2. The instrument cluster illumination changes as follows:
  3. • The illumination goes to off
    • The illumination goes to maximum brightness
    • Instrument Cluster illumination lamps do not dim properly. Refer to Interior Lamps System Check in Lighting Systems.
    • Illumination lamps, turn signals, high beam, and seat belt indicator inoperative. Refer to Instrument Cluster Illumination Lamps Inoperative .

Start and idle the engine.

    • The Air Bag Warning indicator remains off until an accident causes deployment or until a fault is detected in the SIR system.
    • The ABS Warning indicator remains off unless a fault is detected in the ABS system.
    • The Brake Warning indicator remains off unless one of the following conditions occurs:
      • A fault is detected in the base brake system.
      • The parking brake is engaged.
      • The brake fluid level is low.
    • The Charge (volts) Warning indicator remains off with the engine running unless a charging system fault is detected.
    • The Coolant Temperature gauge displays the coolant temperature.
    • The Coolant Temperature (HOT) warning indicator is off, unless the coolant temperature exceeds approximately 124° C (255° F).
    • The Air Bag Warning indicator is inoperative. The indicator remains on or flashes after flashing 6 times. Refer to SIR Diagnostic System Check in SIR.
    • The ABS Warning indicator is inoperative or does not work properly. Refer to Diagnostic System Check in Antilock Brake System.
    • The Low Fuel indicator is inoperative, but the fuel gauge is OK. Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
    • Brake Warning indicator off with parking brake set. Refer to Primary Brake Indicator or Alarm Inoperative When Park Brake is Set .
    • Brake Warning indicator OFF with low brake fluid. Refer to Primary Brake Indicator or Alarm Inoperative with Low Brake Fluid .
    • Brake Warning indicator inoperative. Refer to Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative in Hydraulic Brakes.
    • Brake Warning indicator always on. Refer to Brake Warning Indicator Always On in Hydraulic Brakes.
    • Charge indicator inoperative. Refer to Charge Indicator Inoperative in Engine Controls.
    • Coolant Temperature gauge inoperative or inaccurate. Refer to Engine Coolant Temperature Gage Inaccurate or Inoperative
    • Coolant Temperature indicator inoperative. Refer to Engine Coolant Temperature Indicator Inoperative

Leave the engine idling.

    • The Fuel gauge displays the current fuel level.
    • The Low Fuel indicator turns on when the fuel level is below 1/8 tank.
    • The Low Coolant Warning indicator is OFF, unless the coolant level drops below the sensor level.
    • The Low Oil Level indicator is off, unless the engine oil level drops below a set level. The level is checked after the PCM initially powers up.
    • The Oil Pressure Warning indicator is off, unless a fault is detected.
    • The Service Engine Soon indicator is off, until the PCM determines that a fault has occurred.
    • Fuel gauge inoperative or inaccurate. Refer to Fuel Gage Inaccurate or Inoperative
    • Low Coolant Warning indicator inoperative. Refer to Low Engine Coolant Indicator Inoperative
    • Low Coolant Warning indicator always ON. Refer to Low Engine Coolant Indicator Always On
    • Low Oil Level indicator inoperative. Refer to Low Engine Oil Level Indicator Inoperative
    • Low Oil Level indicator always on. Refer to Low Engine Oil Level Indicator Always On
    • Oil Pressure Warning indicator always on. Refer to ENGINE OIL PRESSURE Message Always On
    • Service Engine Soon indicator always on. Refer to SERVICE VEHICLE SOON Message Always On .

Fasten the seat belts.

The Fasten Seat Belt Warning indicator turns off when you buckle the seat belt. The indicator stays off until you unbuckle the seat belt.

The Fasten Seat Belt Warning indicator does not work properly. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Audible Warnings .

Drive or operate the vehicle as required in order to verify the operation of all the systems.

    • The speedometer displays the current speed.
    • The tachometer (if equipped) displays the current ending RPMs.
    • The Shift Selector indicator displays the correct transmission range.
    • The Traction Control Switch controls the Low Traction indicator or the TCS indicator.
    • The Low Traction indicator turns on during low traction.
    • Speedometer and/or odometer inoperative or inaccurate. Refer to Speedometer and/or Odometer Inaccurate
    • Tachometer inaccurate. Refer to Tachometer Inaccurate
    • Shift Selector indicator does not operated properly. Refer to PRNDL Display Inaccurate or Inoperative
    • Low Traction indicator inoperative. Refer to Low Traction Indicator Inoperative .

  1. Open each door.
  2. Close each door.
  1. The Door Ajar indicator turns on.
  2. The Door Ajar indicator turns off.
