Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement Buick

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 282973  Size: SH

    Important: The passenger's supplemental inflatable restraint (PSIR) door is not serviceable.

  1. Disable the SIR. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the windshield defrost grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  3. Remove the left and the right windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  4. Remove the fasteners (4).
  5. Pull up the front of the trim pad (2) and pull back in order to disengage the clips (1) from the retainers (3).
  6. Disconnect the electrical connection (5) from the base of the pad on the left side.
  7. Remove the upper trim pad (2) from the instrument panel assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the electrical connection (5) to the upper trim pad.
  2. Insert the clips (1) into the retainers (3) in order to install the upper trim pad (2) to the instrument panel assembly.
  3. Align the IP trim panel to the door trim panel.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the trim pad fasteners (4).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).

  7. Install the windshield defrost grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  8. Install the left and the right windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  9. Enable the SIR. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.

Removal Procedure

    Important: The passenger's supplemental inflatable restraint (PSIR) door is not serviceable.

  1. Disable the SIR. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the radio/air deflector trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Center Trim Panel Replacement .
  3. Remove the shifter trim plate. Refer to Front Floor Console Trim Plate Replacement .
  4. Loosen the console.
  5. Slide back the console. Refer to Console Replacement .

  6. Remove the instrument cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement

  8. Remove the fasteners (4).
  9. Remove the upper trim pad (2) from the instrument panel assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Align the upper trim pad to the IP assembly.
  2. Carefully push forward to engage the retaining clips.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.   3. Install the upper trim pad fasteners (4).
  4. Tighten

  6. Position the console.
  7. Secure the console. Refer to Console Replacement .

  8. Install the shifter trim plate. Refer to Front Floor Console Trim Plate Replacement .
  9. Install the radio/air deflector trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Center Trim Panel Replacement .
  10. Enable the SIR. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
