Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement 2.4L

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  2. Discharge and recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
  3. Remove the compressor hose nut from the compressor.
  4. Remove the compressor hose from the compressor.

  6. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector at the compressor.
  8. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement
  9. Remove the idler pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement.
  10. Remove the front and the rear compressor-to-bracket bolts.
  11. Remove the compressor from the vehicle.
  12. Drain the oil from the compressor into a container. Measure the amount of the oil that is drained. Then discard the used oil.

Installation Procedure

  1. Add oil to the new compressor. Use the exact amount of oil that you drained from the old compressor.
  2. Install the compressor to the vehicle.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the compressor-to-bracket mounting bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the front compressor-to-bracket mounting bolts to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).

  6. Install the idler pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement.
  7. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement

  9. Install new sealing washers to the compressor hose.
  10. Connect the electrical connector at the compressor.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Position the compressor hose on compressor.
  13. Install the compressor hose nut to the compressor. Hold this all together while tightening the retaining nut.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the compressor hose nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  15. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  16. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
