Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Place the turn signal lever in the LEFT turn position.
  3. Place the turn signal lever in the RIGHT turn position.

Do the appropriate turn signal lamps and/or indicators illuminate for each action?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Is only one turn signal lamp inoperative?

Go to Step 4

Is the inoperative lamp a turn signal indicator?

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Probe the inoperative turn signal lamp supply voltage circuit of the IPC with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
  5. Place the turn signal lever in the position of the inoperative indicator.

Does the test lamp illuminate and flash.

Test the supply voltage and ground circuits of the inoperative lamp for high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 23

Is only one complete side inoperative, including front and rear turn signals and indicator?

Go to Step 8

Test the right or left turn signal lamp supply voltage circuit for the following:

    • A high resistance
    • An open
    • A short to ground

Are the turn signals inoperative while the hazard flashers operate properly?

Go to Step 10

Test the accessory voltage circuit of the hazard flasher switch for the following:

    • A high resistance
    • An open
    • A short to ground

Test the turn signal relay signal circuit for high resistance or an open between the turn signal switch and S200. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the turn signal relay signal circuit and the turn signal relay control circuit for the following:

    • A high resistance
    • An open
    • A short to ground

Repair the following in the inoperative turn signal supply voltage circuit:

    • An open
    • A high resistance
    • A short to ground

Replace the inoperative lamp. Refer to Headlamp Assembly or Headlamp Bulb and/or Cornering, Sidemarker, Park, Turn Signal Bulb Replacement or Tail Lamp Assembly and /or Backup, Sidemarker, Stop, Turn Signal Bulb Replacement .

Replace the IPC. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
