Power Steering Pump Replacement 3.5L

Removal Procedure

  1. Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
  2. Remove the coolant surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  3. Remove the fuel injector site shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical-3.5L.

  4. Object Number: 293983  Size: SH
  5. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical-3.5L.
  6. Remove the accessary wiring junction block and move aside. Refer to Accessory Wiring Junction Block Replacement in Body Front End
  7. Remove the power steering pulley from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement .
  8. Remove the power steering pressure line from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement .
  9. Remove the power steering return hose from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Return Hose Replacement .

  10. Object Number: 294001  Size: SH
  11. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts.
  12. Remove the power steering pump assembly.
  13. Remove the power steering pump reservoir from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement - Off Vehicle .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 294001  Size: SH
  1. Install the power steering pump reservoir to the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement - Off Vehicle .
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the power steering pump mounting bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering pump mounting bolts to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).

  5. Install the power steering return hose to the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Return Hose Replacement .
  6. Install the power steering pressure line to the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement .

  8. Install the power steering pump pulley to the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement .
  9. Install the accessary wiring junction block. Refer to Accessory Wiring Junction Block Replacement
  10. Install the accessory drive belt to the pump. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  11. Install the coolant surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement in Cooling System.
  12. Install the fuel injector site shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical-3.5L.
  13. Fill the power steering system. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  14. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  15. Inspect the power steering system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump Leaks .
  16. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.

Power Steering Pump Replacement 3.8L

Removal Procedure

  1. Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
  2. Remove the accessary drive belt from the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical-3.8L.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  4. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in tires and wheels.

  5. Object Number: 294335  Size: SH
  6. Remove the power steering pressure line from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement .
  7. Remove the power steering return hose from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Return Hose Replacement .

  8. Object Number: 282122  Size: SH
  9. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts from the power steering pump.
  10. Remove the power steering pump assembly.
  11. Remove the power steering pump reservoir from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement - Off Vehicle .
  12. Transfer the pulley as needed. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power steering pump reservoir to the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement - Off Vehicle .
  2. Install the power steering pump assembly.

  3. Object Number: 282122  Size: SH

  7. Install the power steering return hose to the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Return Hose Replacement .
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Install the accessary drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical-3.8L.
  10. Fill the power steering system with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  11. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  12. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump Leaks .
  13. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
