Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement 2.4L Engine

Removal Procedure

    Important: The left-hand drive model is shown. The right-hand drive model is similar.

  1. Siphon the power steering fluid from the fluid reservoir.
  2. Place a drain pan under the vehicle in order to catch the power steering fluid.
  3. Notice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Remove the fitting and the pressure pipe from the power steering pump outlet.

  5. Object Number: 1768619  Size: SH
  6. Remove the pressure pipe bracket bolt from the generator.
  7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  8. Remove the front exhaust pipe. Refer to Front Pipe Replacement .
  9. Remove the transaxle rear mount assembly. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Replacement .
  10. If the vehicle has AWD, remove the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .

  12. Remove the fitting and the pressure pipe from the power steering gear inlet.
  13. Remove the pressure pipe from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1768622  Size: SH
  1. Route the pressure pipe from the power steering pump to the power steering gear.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the pressure pipe and the fitting to the power steering gear inlet.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  5. If the vehicle has AWD, install the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
  6. Install the transaxle rear mount assembly. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Replacement .
  7. Install the front exhaust pipe. Refer to Front Pipe Replacement .

  8. Object Number: 1768619  Size: SH
  9. Install the pressure pipe bracket bolt to the generator.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure pipe bracket bolt to 10 N·m (88.5 lb in).

  11. Install the pressure pipe and the fitting to the power steering pump outlet.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

    Notice: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Notice in the Preface section.

  13. Fill the fluid reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  14. Notice: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Notice in the Preface section.

  15. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  16. Inspect for leaks. If there are leaks, correct the cause of the leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks .
  17. Lower the vehicle.

Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement 2.0L Engine

Removal Procedure

    Important: The left-hand drive model is shown. The right-hand drive model is similar.

  1. Siphon the power steering fluid from the fluid reservoir.
  2. Remove the engine oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  3. Remove the engine beauty cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .
  4. Place a drain pan under the vehicle in order to catch the power steering fluid.
  5. Notice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice in the Preface section.

  6. Remove the pressure pipe (2) from the power steering pump outlet (3).

  7. Object Number: 1825805  Size: SH
  8. Remove the nut (2) and the bolt (3) from the pressure pipe bracket (1) near the cylinder head.
  9. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  10. Remove the front exhaust pipe. Refer to Front Pipe Replacement .
  11. Remove the transaxle rear mount assembly. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Replacement .
  12. If the vehicle has AWD, remove the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .

  14. Remove the pressure pipe from the power steering gear inlet.
  15. Remove the pressure pipe from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Route the pressure pipe from the power steering pump to the power steering gear.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the pressure pipe to the power steering gear inlet.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  5. If the vehicle has AWD, install the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
  6. Install the transaxle rear mount assembly. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Replacement .
  7. Install the front exhaust pipe. Refer to Front Pipe Replacement .

  8. Object Number: 1825805  Size: SH
  9. Install the bolt (3) and the nut (2) to the pressure pipe bracket (1) near the cylinder head.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nut and the bolt to 10 N·m (88.5 lb in).

  11. Install the pressure pipe (2) to the power steering pump outlet (3).
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  13. Install the engine beauty cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .
  14. Install the engine oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  15. Notice: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Notice in the Preface section.

  16. Fill the reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  17. Notice: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Notice in the Preface section.

  18. Inspect for leaks. If there are leaks, correct the cause of the leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks .
  19. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  20. Lower the vehicle.

Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement 3.2L Engine

Removal Procedure

    Important: The left-hand drive model is shown. The right-hand drive model is similar.

  1. Siphon the power steering fluid from the fluid reservoir.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  4. Place a drain pan under the vehicle in order to catch the power steering fluid.
  5. Notice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice in the Preface section.

  6. Remove the pressure pipe (2) from the power steering pump outlet.

  7. Object Number: 1825820  Size: SH
  8. Remove the nut (1) from the pressure pipe bracket (2) near the rear cylinder head.
  9. Remove the front exhaust pipe. Refer to Front Pipe Replacement .
  10. Remove the transaxle rear mount assembly. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Replacement .
  11. If the vehicle has AWD, remove the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .

  13. Remove the pressure pipe from the power steering gear inlet.
  14. Remove the pressure pipe/hose from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Route the pressure pipe/hose from the power steering pump to the power steering gear.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the pressure pipe to the power steering gear inlet.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  5. If the vehicle has AWD, install the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
  6. Install the transaxle rear mount assembly. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Replacement .
  7. Install the front exhaust pipe. Refer to Front Pipe Replacement .

  9. Install the nut (1) to the pressure pipe bracket (2) near the rear cylinder head.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (88.5 lb in).

  11. Install the pressure pipe (2) to the power steering pump outlet.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  13. Install the front tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  14. Notice: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Notice in the Preface section.

  15. Fill the reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  16. Notice: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Notice in the Preface section.

  17. Inspect for leaks. If there are leaks, correct the cause of the leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks .
  18. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  19. Lower the vehicle.
