Clutch Grabbing C6500, C7500, C8500

Cause

Action

DEFINITION: The clutch grabs, or unable to release the clutch without the vehicle jerking. An abrupt engagement of the clutch.

Review the Symptoms - Clutch and perform the necessary inspections.

Grease or oil contamination on the facings

  1. Repair the cause of the oil leak or grease contamination.
  2. Clean the clutch facings.
  3. Replace the clutch components if they will not come clean. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement .

Linkage needs lubrication

Perform lubrication maintenance on the clutch linkage.

Linkage worn or damaged

Replace the faulty linkage components.

Release bearing or the linkage requires adjustment

  1. Adjust the clutch linkage.
  2. Adjust the release bearing. Refer to Clutch Assembly Adjustment .

  1. Repair the cause of the oil leak or grease contamination.
  2. Clean the clutch facings.
  3. Replace the clutch components if they will not come clean. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement .

Clutch cable crimped or kinked

  1. Inspect the clutch cable routing to ensure the cable is not being crimped or kinked while the engine is under load.
  2. Inspect the clutch cable for smooth operation.
  3. Route the clutch cable properly or replace the clutch cable if faulty. Refer to Clutch Cable Replacement .
