Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 183456  Size: SH

    Important: Be sure that the oil filter gasket is removed with the oil filter.

  1. Remove the oil filter.

  2. Object Number: 384385  Size: SH
  3. Remove the oil filter adapter fitting.

  4. Object Number: 183444  Size: SH
  5. Remove the oil filter bypass valve using a suitable pry tool or a punch to pry the valve out.
  6. Clean the oil filter mounting surface.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 183444  Size: SH
  1. Install the oil filter bypass valve using the following procedure.
  2. 1.1. Insert the new oil filter bypass valve in the cylinder block.
    1.2. Use a center punch and a hammer in order to stake the valve in three places.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the oil filter adapter fitting.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the oil filter adapter fitting to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  5. Install a new oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
