J 24319-B Universal Steering Linkage Puller

Removal Procedure

    Notice: When lifting the vehicle do not allow the jack to touch the rear steering gear. If the jack touches the rear steering gear you may damage the gear or the rack and pinion boots. If the boots are damaged replace the rack and pinion boot.

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the wheel hub and bearing. Refer to Wheel Hub and Bearing Replacement .
  4. Remove the upper ball joint. Refer to Upper Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement .
  5. Remove the lower ball joint. Refer to Lower Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement .

  6. Object Number: 742190  Size: SH
  7. Remove the outer tie rod retaining nut and bracket  (2).

  8. Object Number: 742180  Size: SH
  9. Disconnect the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using the J 24319-B  (1).

  10. Object Number: 748894  Size: SH
  11. Remove the park brake cable retaining bolt (3) from the steering knuckle.

  12. Object Number: 749331  Size: SH
  13. Remove the steering knuckle (2) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 749331  Size: SH
  1. Install the steering knuckle (2) to the vehicle.
  2. Install the upper ball joint. Refer to Upper Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement .
  3. Install the lower ball joint. Refer to Lower Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 748894  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the park brake cable retaining bolt (3) to the steering knuckle.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 65 N·m (48 lb ft).

  7. Install the wheel hub and bearing. Refer to Wheel Hub and Bearing Replacement .

  8. Object Number: 742190  Size: SH
  9. Install the outer tie rod retaining nut to the steering knuckle.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 55 N·m (40 lb ft).

  11. Install the outer tie rod retaining bracket (2).
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the bracket to 65 N·m (48 lb ft).

  13. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Perform a four wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement in Wheel Alignment.
