Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  3. Object Number: 239026  Size: SH
  4. Remove the brake hose union bolt (1). Place a container beneath the brake hose in order to catch escaping brake fluid.
  5. Disconnect the brake hose.

  6. Object Number: 239040  Size: SH
  7. Remove the 2 caliper pin bolts (1).
  8. Remove the caliper from caliper bracket.
  9. Inspect the following components for corrosion and wear. Replace any part if necessary:
  10. • The mounting bolts
    • The caliper pins
    • The dust boots
  11. Remove the brake pads, insulators, retainers, and the wear indicator from the caliper housing. Refer to Brake Pads Replacement .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the brake pads, insulators, retainers, and the wear indicator to the caliper housing. Refer to Brake Pads Replacement .
  2. Install the caliper to the caliper bracket.
  3. Apply Lubriplate® Lubricant, GM P/N 12346293, or an equivalent lubricant meeting the requirements of NLGI #2 Category LB or GC-LB, to the caliper pin bolts.

  4. Object Number: 239040  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the 2 caliper pin bolts (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the caliper pin bolts to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).

  7. Install the brake hose union bolt (1).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten brake hose union bolt to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  9. Install the tire and wheel assembly to the vehicle. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Fill the master cylinder fluid reservoir. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling in Hydraulic Brakes.
  12. Bleed the brakes. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding in Hydraulic Brakes.
