Removal Procedure

Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

   • Air bag deployment
   • Personal injury
   • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
   • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
   • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Record all of the vehicle preset radio stations (if applicable). Refer to Radio/Audio System Operation in Audio Systems.
  2. Record the customer's radio Theftlock® code (if applicable).
  3. Turn OFF all the lamps and accessories.
  4. Verify that the ignition switch is OFF.

Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  8. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Important: Clean any existing oxidation from the contact face of the battery terminal and battery cable using a wire brush before installing the battery cable to the battery terminal.

  1. Connect the negative battery cable to battery.
  2. Tighten
Tighten the negative battery terminal bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  3. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L or Air Cleaner Element Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
  4. Install the front end sheet metal diagonal brace. Refer to Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement in Body Front End.
  5. Unlock the Theftlock® radio (if applicable).
  6. Program the radio stations back into the radio as recorded at the beginning of the procedure. Refer to Radio/Audio System Operation in Entertainment.
  7. Set the clock to the current time. Refer to Radio/Audio System Operation in Entertainment.
