Turn the ignition switch from the LOCK position to the START position.

For Special Equipment Option (SEO) equipped vehicles (RPO 9C3, 9C6), go directly to step 5.

  1. The engine starts.
  2. The SECURITY indicator turns ON for 5 seconds and then turns OFF.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Disconnect the key detection CKT 2-way connector at the base of the steering column.
  3. Connect the male and the female parts to the mating connectors on the pigtails from the J 35628-A .
  4. Insert the ignition key into the key code reader on the J 35628-A .
  5. Turn on the J 35628-A .
  6. A number from 1 to 15 will appear on the display of the J 35628-A .
  7. • A number indicates the electrical code of the key.
    • The letter E indicates an error.
  8. Set the key code selector on the J 35628-A .
  9. Turn the ignition switch to the START position.
  1. The engine will not crank.
  2. The SECURITY indicator turns ON.

  1. Less than 3 minutes after you complete Step 2, turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the J 35628-A .
  3. Reconnect the key detection CKT 2-way connector (CKT 1073 and CKT 1074) at the base of the steering column.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the START position.
  1. The engine does not crank.
  2. The SECURITY indicator turns ON.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Wait 3-4 minutes.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the START position.
  1. The engine cranks and starts.
  2. The SECURITY indicator turns ON for 5 seconds and then turns OFF.

Complete the following steps for SEO equipped vehicles only:

  1. Use a test light to probe between the Data Link Connector (DLC) terminals 8 and 16.
  2. Turn the ignition switch from the OFF position to the START position.
  1. The engine starts.
  2. The test light flashes.
