Did you perform the Vehicle Theft Deterrent System Check?

Go to Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD) System Check

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Disconnect the theft deterrent module.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Is the SECURITY indicator OFF?

Go to Step 3

  1. Perform the Lock Cylinder and Harness Test . Refer to SECURITY Indicator On, Engine Does Not Crank
  2. If you do not find any malfunctions replace the theft deterrent module. Refer to Theft Deterrent Module Replacement

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 7

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Remove and disconnect the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  3. Connect a J 39200 DMM.
  4. Measure the resistance between the theft deterrent module harness connector terminal A5 and the ground.

Is the resistance within the specified range?

Go to Step 5

  1. The SECURITY indicator is ON at all times because of a problem within the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster System Check in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  2. Repair the components as needed.

Is the repair complete?

Repair a short to ground in CKT 728.

Has the repair been made?

Go to Step 7

  1. Verify that the ignition switch is in the LOCK position.
  2. Reconnect any connectors or components that you removed.
