Generator Bracket Replacement LG5

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Caterpillar® 3126 Unit Repair Manual.
3. Remove the air cleaner layer. Refer to Air Cleaner Replacement for the 7.1L (Caterpillar) engine.



4. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement.
5. Remove the generator bracket bolts.
6. Remove the generator bracket.

1. Install the generator bracket to the engine.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

2. Install the generator bracket bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the generator bracket bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

3. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement.
4. Install the air cleaner layer. Refer to Air Cleaner Replacement for the 7.1L (Caterpillar) engine.
5. Install the drive belt. Refer to Caterpillar® 3126 Unit Repair Manual.
6. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.

Generator Bracket Replacement LMM

Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning in the Preface section.

1. Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Shroud Replacement.
2. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement.
3. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement.
4. Remove the idler pulleys. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement.
5. Remove the glow plug control module and bracket. Refer to Glow Plug Control Module Replacement.
6. Remove the fuel injection fuel feed manifold side bolts (1).
7. Reposition the fuel injection fuel feed manifold up out of the way.



8. Remove the fuel pipe bracket bolts (1) and bracket (2).



9. Remove the intake manifold tube bracket bolts and bracket.



10. Remove the generator bracket bolts and bracket.
11. Disconnect any wiring connections.

1. Connect any wiring connections.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.




2. Position the generator bracket and install the bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).




3. Position the intake manifold tube bracket and install the bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).




4. Position the fuel pipe bracket (2) and install the bolts (1).

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).




5. Position the fuel injection fuel feed manifold and install the side bolt (1).

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

6. Install the glow plug control module and bracket. Refer to Glow Plug Control Module Replacement.
7. Install the idler pulleys. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement.
8. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement.
9. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement.
10. Install the upper fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Shroud Replacement.

Generator Bracket Replacement L18

1. Remove the air cleaner layer. Refer to Air Cleaner Replacement.
2. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement.
3. Remove the drive belt idler pulley, if equipped. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement
4. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement.
5. Remove the fan pulley bolts and pulley.



6. Remove the generator bracket bolts and nut.
7. Remove the generator bracket from the stud.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.




1. Slide the generator bracket onto the stud.
2. Install the generator bracket bolts and nut.

Tighten
Tighten the generator bracket bolts and nut to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

3. Install the fan pulley and bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the fan pulley bolts to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

4. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement.
5. Install the drive belt idler pulley, if equipped. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement.
6. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement.
7. Install the air cleaner layer. Refer to Air Cleaner Replacement.
