Headlining Trim Panel Replacement Impala

Tools Required

J 38778 Door Trim Pad Clip Remover

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Do not attempt to repair or alter the head impact energy-absorbing material glued to the headliner or to the garnish trims. If the material is damaged, replace the headliner and/or the garnish trim. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.

  1. Remove the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement .
  2. Remove the sunshade anchors. Refer to Sunshade Anchor Replacement .
  3. Remove the dome lamp, if equipped. Refer to Dome Lamp Replacement .
  4. Remove the assist handles, if equipped. Refer to Front Assist Handle Replacement and Roof Rail Rear Assist Handle Replacement .
  5. Remove the coat hook. Refer to Coat Hook Replacement .
  6. Remove the side rail lamps, if equipped. Refer to Roof Side Rail Lamp Replacement .
  7. Remove the windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement .
  8. Remove the windshield rear view mirror electrical connector.
  9. Remove the center pillar, upper trim panel. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Replacement .
  10. Remove the rear seatback. Refer to Rear Seat Back Replacement in Seats.
  11. Remove the upper quarter trim panels. Refer to Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement .
  12. Remove the rear window trim panel. Refer to Rear Window Shelf Trim Panel Replacement .
  13. Remove the push-in retainers from the rear of the headliner using J 38778 . With the aid of an assistant, support the front of the headliner.

  15. Disconnect the headliner electrical harness connector and the ground wire.
  16. Remove the headliner wiring harness from the inner roof panel.
  17. Recline the front seats in order to aid in the removal of the headliner from the vehicle.
  18. Move the console shifter all the way back to the number 1 position.
  19. For the headliner without the sunroof, remove the headliner from the roof insulator pad, using a flat-bladed tool to cut through the glue bonding the headliner to the roof insulator pad.
  20. For the headliner with the sunroof, remove the headliner from the sunroof module by disengaging the Velcro™ strips (1).
  21. With the aid of an assistant, remove the headliner from the vehicle through the right front door.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 301244  Size: SH

    Important: Excessive bending can deform the headliner during the installation. Use care when loading the headliner into the vehicle.

  1. With the aid of an assistant, move the headliner into the vehicle through the right front door.
  2. Position the headliner to the roof by aligning the sunshade holes in the headliner with the respective hole in the roof structure.
  3. Connect the headliner electrical connector and the ground wire.
  4. Install the headliner wiring harness to the inner roof panel.
  5. Install the front assist handle, if equipped. Refer to Front Assist Handle Replacement .
  6. Install the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement .
  7. Install the sunshade anchors. Refer to Sunshade Anchor Replacement .
  8. Install the rear assist handles, if equipped. Refer to Roof Rail Rear Assist Handle Replacement .
  9. Install the 2 rear push-in retainers to the rear of the headliner.
  10. For the headliner with the sunroof, install the headliner to the sunroof module by engaging the Velcro™ strips (1).
  11. Install the rear window trim panel. Refer to Rear Window Shelf Trim Panel Replacement .
  12. Install the rear quarter upper trim panels. Refer to Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement .
  13. Install the center pillar, upper trim panel. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Replacement .
  14. Install the windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement .
  15. Install the side rail lamps, if equipped. Refer to Roof Side Rail Lamp Replacement .
  16. Install the coat hook. Refer to Coat Hook Replacement .
  17. Install the dome lamp, if equipped. Refer to Dome Lamp Replacement .
  18. Install the rear seat back. Refer to Rear Seat Back Replacement in Seats.

Headlining Trim Panel Replacement Monte Carlo

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement .
  2. Remove the sunshade anchors. Refer to Sunshade Anchor Replacement .
  3. Remove the overhead console, if equipped. Refer to Roof Console Replacement .
  4. Remove the dome lamp. Refer to Dome Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  5. Remove the assist handle. Refer to Front Assist Handle Replacement .
  6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the rear view mirror.
  7. Remove the windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement .
  8. Remove the rear seat back. Refer to Rear Seat Back Replacement in Seats.
  9. Remove the rear window trim panel. Refer to Rear Window Shelf Trim Panel Replacement .
  10. Remove the upper quarter trim panel. Refer to Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement .
  11. Remove the push-in retainers from the rear of the headliner using J 38778 , with the aid of an assistant, support the front of the headliner.

  13. Disconnect the headliner electrical harness connector and the ground wire, which are located under the right side of the window trim panel.
  14. Remove the headliner wiring harness from the inner roof panel.
  15. Recline the front seats in order to aid in the removal of the headliner from the vehicle.
  16. For the headliner with the sunroof, remove the headliner from the sunroof module by disengaging the Velcro™ strips (1).
  17. For the headliner without the sunroof, remove the headliner from the roof insulator pad, using a flat-bladed tool to cut through the glue bonding the headliner to the roof insulator pad.
  18. With the aid of an assistant, remove the headliner from the vehicle through the right front door.

  12. Install the windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement .
  13. Install the side rail lamps. Refer to Roof Side Rail Lamp Replacement .
  14. Install the dome lamp. Refer to Dome Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  15. Install the rear window trim panel. Refer to Rear Window Shelf Trim Panel Replacement .
  16. Install the rear seat back. Refer to Rear Seat Back Replacement in Seats.
