J 36660-A Torque Angle Meter

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  2. Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
  3. Remove the left exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side in Engine Exhaust.
  4. Remove the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .

  5. Object Number: 441261  Size: SH
  6. Remove and discard the left cylinder head bolts (1).
  7. Remove the left cylinder head (2).

  8. Object Number: 441262  Size: SH
  9. Remove the left cylinder head gasket (1).
  10. Disassemble the left cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Disassemble in Engine Mechanical-3.8 L Unit Repair.

Installation Procedure

  1. Assemble the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Assemble in Engine Mechanical-3.8 L Unit Repair.
  2. Important: The arrow on the gasket must point to the front of the engine. Failure to install the gasket properly will cause gasket failure and possible engine failure.

  3. Install a new left cylinder head gasket (1) to the alignment pins (2).

  4. Object Number: 441261  Size: SH
  5. Install the left cylinder head (2).
  6. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 38826  Size: SH
  7. Torque the cylinder head bolts following the given sequence.
  8. Important: Do not reuse the cylinder head bolts. Install NEW cylinder head bolts during assembly.

  9. Install new cylinder head bolts.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the cylinder head bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft) in sequence shown. Use the J 36660-A to torque the cylinder head bolts an additional 120 degrees.

  11. Install the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  12. Install the left exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side in Engine Exhaust.
  13. Install the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
  14. Refill the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  15. Change the engine oil and filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
