J 37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool

Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning in the Preface section.

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle and suitably support. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.

  3. Object Number: 492729  Size: SH
  4. Pull down on the intermediate park brake cable (2) near the park brake cable connector (1).
  5. Disconnect the intermediate park brake cable (2) from the park brake connector (1).

  6. Object Number: 751609  Size: SH
  7. Use the J 37043 in order to depress the rear brake cable retainer.
  8. Remove the rear park brake cable from the rear cable bracket (1).
  9. Disconnect the park brake cable (2) from the park brake actuator lever (3).

  10. Object Number: 767225  Size: SH
  11. Remove the park brake cable bracket mounting bolts.
  12. Remove the park brake cable bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 767225  Size: SH
  1. Install the park brake cable bracket.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Install the 2 park brake cable bracket mounting bolts and tighten to 60 N·m (44 lb ft).

  4. Object Number: 751609  Size: SH
  5. Install the rear park brake cable (2) to the rear park brake cable bracket (1).
  6. Ensure that the locking tabs are properly seated.
  7. Connect the rear park brake cable (2) to the park brake actuator lever (3).

  8. Object Number: 492729  Size: SH
  9. Pull down on the intermediate park brake cable (2) near the park brake cable connector (1).
  10. Connect the intermediate park brake cable (2) to the park brake connector (1).
  11. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. To ensure that the park brake cable retainers are seated, cycle the park brake pedal 1 to 2 times.
