Radiator Replacement LH2 - Standard Cooling

Tools Required

J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
  2. Remove the electric cooling fan. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Replacement.

  3. Object Number: 1379896  Size: SH
  4. Remove the upper condenser mounting bolts.

  5. Object Number: 1349581  Size: SH
  6. Remove the lower condenser mounting bolts.

  7. Object Number: 1350217  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the side air baffle lower retaining pins from the radiator.
  9. Important: Reposition the condenser to access the transmission oil cooler mounting bolts.

  10. Remove the transmission oil cooler (TOC) mounting bolts.
  11. Lower the vehicle.

  13. Using the J 38185 , disengage the tension on the hose clamp and remove the radiator outlet hose from the radiator.

  14. Object Number: 1334988  Size: SH
  15. Using the J 38185 , disengage the tension on the hose clamp and remove the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.

  16. Object Number: 1334989  Size: SH
  17. Using the J 38185 , disengage the tension on the hose clamp and remove the surge tank inlet hose from the radiator.

  18. Object Number: 1334986  Size: SH
  19. Remove the radiator support bracket bolts.
  20. Remove the radiator support brackets.
  21. Disconnect the upper air baffle retaining pins from the radiator.
  22. Remove the radiator.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the radiator.
  2. Connect the upper air baffle retaining pins to the radiator.
  3. Install the radiator support brackets.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the radiator support bracket bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  7. Connect the surge tank inlet hose to the radiator and using the J 38185 , position the surge tank inlet hose clamp to secure the hose.

  8. Object Number: 1334988  Size: SH
  9. Connect the radiator inlet hose to the radiator and using the J 38185 , position the radiator inlet hose clamp to secure the hose.

  10. Object Number: 1335240  Size: SH
  11. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the radiator and using the J 38185 , position the radiator outlet hose clamp to secure the hose.
  12. Raise and support the vehicle.
  13. Install the TOC mounting bolts.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  15. Connect the side air baffle lower retaining pins to the radiator.

  16. Object Number: 1349581  Size: SH
  17. Install the lower condenser mounting bolts.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 6.5 N·m (58 lb in).


    Object Number: 1379896  Size: SH
  19. Install the upper condenser mounting bolts.
  20. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 6.5 N·m (58 lb in).

  21. Install the electric cooling fan. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Replacement.
  22. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.

Radiator Replacement LY7 - Standard Cooling

Tools Required

    • J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers
    • J 38778 Door Trim Pad Clip Remover

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Remove the electric cooling fan assembly. Refer to Engine Cooling Fan Replacement .
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

  5. Remove the lower condenser mounting bolts.

  6. Object Number: 1349583  Size: SH
  7. Remove the upper condenser mounting bolts.

  8. Object Number: 1350217  Size: SH

    Important: Reposition the condenser to access the transmission oil cooler mounting bolts.

  9. Remove the transmission oil cooler mounting bolts.

  10. Object Number: 1334986  Size: SH
  11. Disconnect the side air baffle lower retainer pins from the radiator.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Remove the radiator support bracket bolts.
  14. Remove the radiator support brackets.
  15. Remove the radiator/condenser upper support using J 38778 .

  16. Object Number: 1334989  Size: SH
  17. Disconnect the surge tank inlet hose from the radiator using the J 38185 and reposition aside.

  18. Object Number: 1334988  Size: SH
  19. Using the J 38185 disengage tension on the radiator inlet hose clamp and disconnect from the radiator.
  20. Using the J 38185 disengage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp and disconnect from the radiator.
  21. Disconnect the side air baffle upper retainer pins from the radiator.
  22. Remove the radiator.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the radiator.
  2. Connect the side air baffle upper retainer pins to the radiator.
  3. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the radiator and using the J 38185 , position the radiator outlet hose clamp to secure the hose.

  5. Connect the radiator inlet hose to the radiator and using the J 38185 , position the radiator inlet hose clamp to secure the hose.

  6. Object Number: 1334989  Size: SH
  7. Connect the surge tank inlet hose to the radiator and using the J 38185 , position the hose clamp to secure the hose.
  8. Install the radiator/condenser upper support.
  9. Install the radiator support brackets.

  20. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 6.5 N·m (58 lb in).

    Tighten the bolts to 6.5 N·m (58 lb in).

  23. Lower the vehicle.
  24. Install the electric cooling fan assembly. Refer to Engine Cooling Fan Replacement .
  25. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

Radiator Replacement LH2 - Heavy Duty Cooling

Tools Required

J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
  2. Remove the electric cooling fan. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Replacement.

  3. Object Number: 1379896  Size: SH
  4. Remove the upper condenser mounting bolts.

  5. Object Number: 1349581  Size: SH
  6. Remove the lower condenser mounting bolts.

  7. Object Number: 1350217  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the side air baffle lower retaining pins from the radiator.
  9. Important: Reposition the condenser to access the transmission oil cooler mounting bolts.

  10. Remove the transmission oil cooler (TOC) mounting bolts.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Remove the fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Shroud Replacement.
  13. Using the J 38185 , disengage the tension on the hose clamp and remove the radiator outlet hose from the radiator.

  15. Using the J 38185 , disengage the tension on the hose clamp and remove the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.

  16. Object Number: 1334989  Size: SH
  17. Using the J 38185 , disengage the tension on the hose clamp and remove the surge tank inlet hose from the radiator.

  18. Object Number: 1334986  Size: SH
  19. Remove the radiator support bracket bolts.
  20. Remove the radiator support brackets.
  21. Disconnect the upper air baffle retaining pins from the radiator.
  22. Remove the radiator.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the radiator.
  2. Connect the upper air baffle retaining pins to the radiator.
  3. Install the radiator support brackets.

  5. Install the radiator support bracket bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  7. Connect the surge tank inlet hose to the radiator and using the J 38185 , position the surge tank inlet hose clamp to secure the hose.

  8. Object Number: 1364956  Size: SH
  9. Connect the radiator inlet hose to the radiator and using the J 38185 , position the radiator inlet hose clamp to secure the hose.
  10. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the radiator and using the J 38185 , position the radiator outlet hose clamp to secure the hose.
  11. Install the fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Shroud Replacement.
  12. Raise and support the vehicle.
  13. Install the TOC mounting bolts.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  15. Connect the side air baffle lower retaining pins to the radiator.

  17. Install the lower condenser mounting bolts.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 6.5 N·m (58 lb in).

  20. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 6.5 N·m (58 lb in).

  21. Install the electric cooling fan. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Replacement.
  22. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
