Diagnostic Aids

Based on the liftgate and side door status information, the rear integration module (RIM), which is the door lock master, determines if automatic door locking functions are permitted. If the RIM determines that either the liftgate or a side door is open, it will not permit the automatic locking function. The RIM relies upon a class 2 serial data message from each door module. For side door status applicable to the automatic door locks, each door module determines the status of its respective door based on a signal received from the door jamb switch, which is contained within the corresponding door lock actuator. However, because the liftgate is not equipped with a door jamb switch, the liftgate ajar indicator switch is used to directly signal the liftgate door status to the RIM.

Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step determines if the door jamb switch or circuit may be the cause of the malfunction. If the scan tool display indicates that a door jamb switch is activated when in fact the door is closed, it is likely that a failure has occurred to the door open/jamb switch or its circuits. Because the door jamb switches of the side doors also control the dome/courtesy light, refer to Symptoms - Lighting Systems in Body Rear End for diagnosis.

  2. This step determines if the liftgate ajar indicator switch may be the cause of the malfunction. There is no door jamb switch for the liftgate. If the scan tool display indicates that the liftgate indicator switch is active when in fact the liftgate is closed, it is likely that a failure has occurred to the liftgate ajar indicator switch or its circuits. Refer to Symptoms - Body Rear End in Body Rear End for diagnosis.
