Fan Replacement Mechanical Clutch

J-41240 Fan Clutch Remover and Installer

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1442452  Size: SH
  1. Remove the air cleaner intake duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement.
  2. Note: 

       • The fan nut has left hand (reverse) threads.
       • Do not completely remove the fan from the crank adapter shaft.

  3. Loosen the fan nut from the crank adapter shaft using J-41240 remover/installer .
  4. Remove the fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Shroud Replacement.
  5. Continue to loosen the fan nut and disconnect the fan from the crank adapter shaft.
  6. Remove the fan from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1442452  Size: SH

    Note: The fan nut has left hand (reverse) threads.

  1. Install the fan to the vehicle.
  2. Connect the fan to the crank adapter shaft.
  3. Install the fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Shroud Replacement.
  4. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  5. Install the fan nut to the crank adapter shaft using J-41240 remover/installer .
  6. Tighten
    Tighten to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

  7. Install the air cleaner intake duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement.

Fan Replacement Electric LH2

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1335111  Size: SH
  1. Remove the upper mounting bolts that secure the auxiliary cooling fan assembly to the condenser.
  2. Raise and Support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  3. Remove the front air deflector retainers.
  4. Remove the front air deflector.

  5. Object Number: 2181911  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the electrical connectors (1 and 2) from the auxiliary cooling fan assembly.

  7. Object Number: 1372873  Size: SH
  8. Remove the lower mounting bolts that secure the auxiliary cooling fan assembly to the condenser.
  9. Remove the auxiliary cooling fan assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1372873  Size: SH
  1. Install the auxiliary cooling fan assembly.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Install the mounting bolts that secure the auxiliary cooling fan assembly to the condenser and tighten to 5.4 N·m (48 lb in).

  4. Object Number: 2181911  Size: SH
  5. Connect the electrical connectors 1 and 2 to the auxiliary cooling fan assembly.

  6. Object Number: 1335111  Size: SH
  7. Install the front air deflector.
  8. Install the front air deflector retainers.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Install the upper mounting bolts that secure the auxiliary cooling fan assembly to the condenser and tighten the bolts to 5.4 N·m (48 lb in).

Fan Replacement Electric LY7

Removal Procedure

Warning: An electric fan under the hood can start up even when the engine is not running and can injure you. Keep hands, clothing and tools away from any underhood electric fan.

Warning: To help avoid personal injury or damage to the vehicle, a bent, cracked, or damaged fan blade or housing should always be replaced.


    Object Number: 1363014  Size: SH
  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement.
  2. Disconnect the cooling fan electrical connectors.
  3. Disconnect the condenser tube from the cooling fan shroud retainer clip.
  4. Disengage the surge tank inlet hose from the retaining features on the cooling fan shroud and reposition aside.
  5. Remove the retaining bolts that secure the cooling fan shroud to the radiator.
  6. Remove the cooling fan assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1363014  Size: SH
  1. Install the cooling fan assembly.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Install the retaining bolts that secure the cooling fan shroud to the radiator and tighten to 5.4 N·m (48 lb in).
  4. Engage the surge tank inlet hose to the retaining features on the cooling fan shroud.
  5. Connect the condenser tube to the cooling fan shroud retainer clip.
  6. Connect the cooling fan electrical connectors.
  7. Install the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement.
