Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement LY7

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.
  3. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor and Power Steering Pump Belt Tensioner Replacement.
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  5. Remove the LH tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  6. Remove the front air deflector. Refer to Instrument Panel Air Deflector Replacement.

  7. Object Number: 1563410  Size: SH
  8. Remove the suction line bolt (1) from the compressor.
  9. Remove the discharge line bolt (2) at the compressor.
  10. Disconnect the A/C line from the compressor.
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor.
  12. Remove the compressor mounting bolt.
  13. Lower the vehicle.

  15. Rotate the compressor and remove from the vehicle.
  16. Replace the desiccant bag if the following conditions exist. Refer to Air Conditioning Refrigerant Desiccant Replacement.
  17. • Color of PAG oil is brown or black
    • Presence of foreign substances
  18. If you are replacing the compressor, balance the compressor oil. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Oil Balancing.
  19. Remove and discard the O-ring seals from the compressor suction and discharge lines. Refer to O-Ring Replacement.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1563412  Size: SH
  1. Install the compressor.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. Install the compressor mounting bolts.
  4. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  5. Tighten the compressor mounting bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  7. Connect the electrical connector.

  9. Install new O-ring seals to the line fittings. Refer to O-Ring Replacement.
  10. Connect the suction line to the compressor.
  11. Install the suction line bolt (1).
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 9.8 N·m (87 lb in).

  13. Connect the discharge line to the compressor.
  14. Install the discharge line bolt (2).
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 9.8 N·m (87 lb in).

  16. Install the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement.
  17. Install the LH wheel and tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  18. Lower the vehicle.
  19. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor and Power Steering Pump Belt Tensioner Replacement.
  20. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.
  21. Evacuate and recharge the refrigerant system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
  22. Using J 39400-A , leak test the fitting of the repaired or reinstalled component.

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.
  3. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement - Air Conditioning, Power Steering, and Water Pump.
  4. Remove the cooling fan assembly.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  6. Remove the LH tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  7. Remove the front air deflector. Refer to Instrument Panel Air Deflector Replacement.

  9. Remove the suction line bolt (1) from the compressor.
  10. Remove the discharge line bolt (2) at the compressor.
  11. Disconnect the electric connector from the compressor.
  12. Remove the compressor mounting bolt.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Rotate the compressor and remove from the vehicle.

  16. Replace the desiccant bag if the following conditions exist. Refer to Air Conditioning Refrigerant Desiccant Replacement.

  1. Install the compressor.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. Install the compressor mounting bolts.
  4. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  5. Tighten the compressor mounting bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  7. Connect the electrical connector.

  9. Install new O-ring seals to the line fittings. Refer to O-Ring Replacement.
  10. Connect the suction hose to the compressor.
  11. Install the suction line bolt (1).
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  13. Connect the discharge line to the compressor.
  14. Install the discharge line bolt (2).
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  16. Install the front air deflector. Refer to Instrument Panel Air Deflector Replacement.
  17. Install the LH tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  18. Lower the vehicle.
  19. Install the cooling fan assembly. Refer to Fan Replacement.
  20. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement - Air Conditioning, Power Steering, and Water Pump.
  21. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.
  22. Evacuate and recharge the refrigerant system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
  23. Using J 39400-A , leak test the fitting of the repaired or reinstalled component.
