Circuit Description

The theft deterrent (VTD) module performs an internal test to determine if the module is in the learn coded key mode every 300 milliseconds. If the test determines that the module is in the learn coded key mode the VTD module will indicate a learn coded key mode is current.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

At the beginning of the ignition cycle the VTD module detects a learn coded key mode.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • Stores a DTC B3031 in the VTD module memory.
    • No driver warning message will be displayed for this DTC.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The VTD module no longer detects a learn coded key mode.
    • The history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.
    • Use a scan tool in order to clear a history DTC.

Diagnostic Aids

When a new module is installed into a vehicle the VTD module is in the learn coded key module. Perform the Learn Key Procedure.
