Install floor deadener.

Do Not replace the carpet.

Condition 1

Some customers may comment that the front floor carpet (1) is loose around the driver's side floor next to the sill plate or foot rest.

Cause 1

This condition may be caused by the lack of padding under the carpet at the left front foot rest.

Correction 1

Install floor deadener to the foam foot rest block using the steps below.

  1. Position the left front seat assembly to the full rear position.
  2. Remove the left front floor mat.
  3. Remove the left front door sill plate. Refer to Front Side Door Sill Plate Replacement in SI.
  4. Reposition the carpet up and away from the foot rest block.

  6. Remove the foam foot rest block (1) from the vehicle.
  7. Cut a piece of deadener to 11 cm (4 3/8 in) width by 26 cm (10 1/2 in) length.

  8. Object Number: 2039982  Size: SH
  9. Attach the deadener to the top of the foam foot rest block with hot glue.
  10. Install the foam block back into the vehicle.
  11. Reposition the carpet back over the foot rest block.
  12. Important: Make sure the carpet is tucked behind the sill plate.

  13. Install the left front door sill plate. Refer to Front Side Door Sill Plate Replacement in SI.
  14. Install the left front floor mat.
  15. Return the seat assembly back to the original position.

Condition 2 (Saab Only)

Some customers may comment on the way the carpet fits around the passenger side of the floor console. Other customers may comment on a bolt (1) sticking out from under the floor console.

Cause 2

This condition may be caused by the lack of padding on top of the floor tunnel.

Correction 2

Install floor deadener to the top front center of the front floor tunnel using the steps below.

  1. Remove the right front floor mat.
  2. Remove the right front door sill plate. Refer to Front Side Door Sill Plate Replacement in SI.
  3. Remove the right front seat assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Front Seat Replacement in SI.
  4. Remove the front floor console. Refer to Console Replacement in SI.

  5. Object Number: 2039987  Size: SH
  6. Remove the right side metal carpet retainer (1).
  7. Important: The deadener will require two pieces to gain the 20 mm ( ¾ in) thickness needed.

  8. Cut two pieces of deadener to 15 cm (6 in) wide by 25 cm (10 in) length.
  9. Hot glue the two pieces of deadener together.

  11. Lift the right side carpet assembly up while positioning the deadener (1) between the carpet and the top front center of the floor pan tunnel.
  12. Verify that the ground bolt is covered by the carpet.
  13. Install the metal carpet retainer.
  14. Install the front floor console. Refer to Console Replacement in SI.
  15. Install the right front seat assembly. Refer to Front Seat Replacement in SI.
  16. Install the right front door sill plate. Refer to Front Side Door Sill Plate Replacement in SI.
  17. Install the right front floor mat.
