Removal Procedure
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  2. Remove the left closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  3. Remove the knee bolster trim panel. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Panel Replacement .
  4. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .

  5. Remove the left HVAC push pin (2).
  6. Remove the left HVAC floor duct (1).
  7. Fully lower the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  8. Remove the shift lever bezel, Oldsmobile only. Refer to Console Shift Lever Bezel Replacement .
  9. Remove the center console. Refer to Console Replacement .
  10. Remove the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  11. Remove the right closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  12. Remove the I/P storage compartment door. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Door Replacement .
  13. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  14. Remove the HVAC control module. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems - Manual.

  15. Remove the HVAC control module wire harness attachment (1) from the I/P substrate.

    16. Object Number: 796605 Size: SH
  16. Remove the left I/P access cover.
  17. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  18. If replacing the I/P, remove the headlamp switch bezel. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Left Side .
  19. Remove the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  20. Remove the trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  21. Remove the front upper speakers, if equipped. Refer to Front Upper Speaker Replacement in Entertainment.

  22. Remove the right I/P access cover.

  23. Remove the side window defogger outlet screw.

    24. Object Number: 713401 Size: SH
  24. Remove the bolts securing the lower portion of the instrument panel to the vehicle.

    25. Object Number: 713403 Size: SH
  25. Remove the bolts that secure the middle and upper portion of the I/P to the vehicle.
  26. With the aid of an assistant, lift up from the bottom of the I/P in order to release the I/P from the positioning locators.
  27. Remove the I/P from the vehicle.
  28. Place the I/P on a clean prepared surface.
  29. If replacing the I/P, remove the passenger inflatable restraint I/P module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  30. If replacing the I/P, remove the air distribution duct vents from the instrument panel. Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.

Installation Procedure
  1. If replacing the I/P, install the air distribution duct vents to the I/P. Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  2. If replacing the I/P, install the passenger inflatable restraint module to the I/P. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  3. With the aid of an assistant, install the I/P to the vehicle.

    4. Important: Ensure the wiring harnesses and electrical connectors are not pinched behind the I/P and are positioned for proper connection.

  4. Fully seat the I/P to the positioning locators.

    Important: Do not tighten the I/P retaining bolts until all of the bolts have been loosely installed.

  5. Install the bolts securing the middle and upper portion of the I/P to the vehicle.

    6. Object Number: 713401 Size: SH
  6. Install the bolts that secure the lower portion of the I/P to the vehicle.

    7. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  7. Complete the installation of all of the bolts that retain the I/P to the vehicle.

    8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 7 N·m (62 lb in).

  8. Install the side window defogger outlet screw.

    9. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 2.5 N·m (22 lb in).

  9. Install the right I/P access cover.
  10. Install the front upper speakers, if equipped. Refer to Front Upper Speaker Replacement in Entertainment.
  11. Install the trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  12. Install the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  13. If replacing the I/P, install the headlamp switch bezel. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Left Side .
  14. Install the headlamp switch to the bezel. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.

  15. Install the left I/P access cover.

    16. Object Number: 828216 Size: SH
  16. Install the HVAC control module wire harness attachment (1) to the I/P substrate.
  17. Install the HVAC control module. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems - Manual.
  18. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  19. Install the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  20. Install the center console. Refer to Console Replacement .
  21. Install the shift lever bezel, Oldsmobile only. Refer to Console Shift Lever Bezel Replacement .
  22. Install the I/P compartment door. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Door Replacement .
  23. Install the right closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  24. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

  25. Install the left HVAC floor duct (1).
  26. Install the left HVAC floor duct push pin (2).
  27. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  28. Install the knee bolster trim panel. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Panel Replacement .
  29. Install the left closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  30. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
