Removal Procedure

Caution: When a lift gate hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

  1. Open and support the liftgate.
  2. Remove the tail lamp. Refer to Tail Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  3. Use a small flat-bladed tool in order to lift up the snap-ring retainer at the bottom of the liftgate strut.
  4. Pull the bottom of the liftgate strut from the ball stud.

  5. Object Number: 313603  Size: SH
  6. Remove the liftgate strut ball stud from the body.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the liftgate strut ball stud to the body.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the stud to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  3. Align the bottom of the liftgate strut with the snap-ring retainer in order to install the ball stud on the body.
  4. Press on the bottom end of the liftgate strut in order to snap the strut onto the ball stud.
  5. Install the tail lamp. Refer to Tail Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  6. Remove the liftgate support.
  7. Close the liftgate.
