Definition: When the ignition switch is in the RUN position, one of the following actions occurs:

The BCM sounds the fasten-seat-belt reminder chime for 4-8 seconds when the ignition switch is set to the RUN position when the driver's seat belt is unfastened.

Was the Body Control Module (BCM) System Check performed?

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Body Control System

1. Disconnect the BCM connector C2.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
3. Observe the fasten-belt indicator.

Is the fasten-belt indicator off?

--

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 3

1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
2. Disconnect the instrument cluster.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
4. Using a J 39200 DMM, measure the voltage between the BCM harness connector C2 terminal D12 and ground.

Is the voltage measured less than the specified value?

2 V

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control Systems.

The fasten-belts indicator lamp stays on due to a malfunction in the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster System Check in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console for the diagnosis and repair of the instrument cluster.

Repair the short to B+ in circuit 529.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 7

--

1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
2. Reinstall the connectors and the components which you removed.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position for 6 seconds.
4. Remove the BCM PRGRM fuse.
5. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position. The BCM sounds the chime several times equivalent to the BCM type which is installed on the vehicle.
6. Within 1 second, turn the ignition switch from the ACC position to the LOCK position, then back to the ACC position. The BCM sounds any DTCs stored.
