Use the following steps in order to determine the BCM type:

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Remove the BCM PRGRM fuse in the fuse block.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position.
    • The seat belt indicator flashes.
    • The chime sounds 4 times.

These actions indicate that the body control module (BCM) type 4 is installed in the vehicle.

    • The seat belt indicator does not flash.
    • The chime does not sound 4 times.

This indicates that the vehicle is not equipped with content theft deterrent (RPO UA6), or the vehicle has an incorrect BCM installed. Go to Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) Circuit Description .

Use the following steps in order to set the feature customization mode that will enable the content theft deterrent system:

  1. Verify that the BCM PRGRM fuse is removed and that the ignition switch is in the ACC position.
  2. Use the following steps in order to set the content theft deterrent/shock sensor control to mode 4:
  3. 2.1. Turn the headlamp switch from the OFF position to PARK position, and back to the OFF position.

    This action advances the mode number.

    2.2. The seat belt indicator flashes and the chime sounds a number of times that is equal to the current customization mode number.
  4. Use the following steps in order to set the theft deterrent arm/disarm control to mode 3:
  5. 3.1. Insert the second key in the left front, the right front, or the liftgate door lock cylinder.
    3.2. Rotate the key from the center position to the UNLOCK position.
    3.3. Press the horn button on the remote keyless entry transmitter.
    3.4. Count the number of chimes that you hear. The number of chimes tells you which mode you have set.
    3.5. Press the horn button again in order to change the mode. Continue to press the button until you hear the number of chimes that indicates the mode that you want.
    3.6. Remove the key from the door key cylinder.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  7. Reinstall the BCM PRGRM fuse.
  1. The seat belt indicator flashes 4 times.
  2. The chime sounds 4 times.

    These actions indicate that the content theft deterrent/shock sensor control mode 4 is set.

  3. The seat belt indicator flashes 3 times.
  4. The chime sounds 3 times.

    This indicates that the theft deterrent arm/disarm control mode 3 is set.

Arm the system (1 of 2):

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Remove the key from the ignition lock cylinder.
  3. Open the driver door and press LOCK on either power door lock switch.
  4. Close all of the doors and the liftgate.
    • The security indicator lamp flashes while the driver door is open.
    • The security indicator lamp turns on steadily when the following conditions exist:
       - All of the doors are closed.
       - The content theft deterrent system enters the arming mode.
    • The security indicator lamp flashes continuously at a slow rate when the content theft deterrent system is armed.
    • Go to SECURITY Indicator Inoperative

Arm the system (2 of 2):

  1. Press UNLOCK on the keyless entry transmitter.
  2. Press LOCK on the keyless entry transmitter.

The lamp flashes continuously at a slow rate when the content theft deterrent system is armed.

    • Go to SECURITY Indicator Inoperative

Disarm the system (1 of 2):

  1. Use the key in the key lock cylinder in order to unlock the left front, the right front, or the liftgate door.
  2. Open the driver door.

The system disarms.

Disarm the system (2 of 2):

  1. Close all of the doors.
  2. Press LOCK on the keyless entry transmitter.
  3. Wait for 10 seconds.
  4. Press UNLOCK on the keyless entry transmitter.
  5. Open the driver door.

The system disarms.

Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) Alarm Mode Always On

Set off the alarm (1 of 3):

  1. Lower the left front and right front door windows.
  2. Remove the key from the ignition key lock cylinder.
  3. Close all of the doors.
  4. Press LOCK on the keyless entry transmitter.
  5. Reach through the driver window opening. Unlock the door manually.
  6. Open the driver door.
  7. Stop the alarm by pressing UNLOCK on the keyless entry transmitter.
    • The content theft deterrent system sets off the alarm when opening the driver door.
    • During the alarm mode, the content theft deterrent system alternates between the exterior lights flashing and sounds the horn for 2 minutes.
    • The security indicator lamp turns on steadily.
    • Go to SECURITY Indicator Inoperative

Set off the alarm (2 of 3):

  1. Close all of the doors.
  2. Press LOCK on the keyless entry transmitter.
  3. Reach through any passenger window opening.
  4. Unlock the door manually.
  5. Open the unlocked door.
  6. Stop the alarm by pressing UNLOCK on the keyless entry transmitter.
    • The content theft deterrent system sets off the alarm when you open any vehicle door.
    • During the alarm mode, the content theft deterrent system alternates between the exterior lights flashing and sounds the horn for 2 minutes.
    • The security indicator lamp turns on steadily.
    • Go to SECURITY Indicator Inoperative

Set off the alarm (3 of 3):

  1. Close all of the doors.
  2. Press LOCK on the keyless entry transmitter.
  3. Reach through the driver window opening.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  5. Stop the alarm by pressing UNLOCK on the keyless entry transmitter.
    • The content theft deterrent system sets off the alarm when you turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
    • During the alarm mode, the content theft deterrent system alternates between the exterior lights flashing and sounds the horn for 2 minutes.
    • The security indicator lamp turns on steadily.
    • Go to SECURITY Indicator Inoperative

Set off the warning mode:

  1. Close all of the doors.
  2. Press LOCK on the keyless entry transmitter.
  3. Wait for 10 seconds.
  4. Simulate a small vehicle impact. Choose an area of the vehicle such as the bumpers in order to avoid body damage.
    • The content theft deterrent system alternates between 5 exterior lights flashing and sounds the horn. This is dependent on the sensitivity level of the shock sensor and the magnitude of the impact to the vehicle.
    • The security indicator lamp turns on.
