The Interior Lights System Check tests the operation of the body control module (BCM). For more information regarding other BCM controlled systems, refer to Body Control Module (BCM).

  1. Turn off the instrument panel (IP) dimmer switch.
  2. Turn on the interior lamps override switch (enabling the interior courtesy lights).
  3. Turn off the windshield header courtesy/reading lamps.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  5. Lower the driver door window in order to prevent lockout.
  6. Perform the following procedure while observing the interior courtesy lights:
  7. 6.1. Open and then close the left front door and the right front door, one door at a time.
    6.2. Open and then close the left sliding door, if so equipped, and the right sliding door, one door at a time.
    6.3. Open and then close the rear liftgate door.
    • The interior courtesy lamps turn on when any door is open.
    • The interior courtesy lights turn off when all the doors close.

  1. Close all of the vehicle doors.
  2. Turn the IP dimmer switch to the DOME position while observing the interior courtesy lights.
  3. Turn off the IP dimmer switch.
    • The interior courtesy lights turn on when the IP dimmer switch is in the DOME position.
    • The interior courtesy lights turn off when the IP dimmer switch is deactivated.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Open a vehicle door for at least 5 seconds, and then close the door.
  3. Observe the interior courtesy lights.
    • Delayed illumination feature enabled (interior lighting modes 2 and 4):
        The interior courtesy lights turn on for 25 seconds, then turn off after the last door is closed.
    • Delayed illumination feature disabled (interior lighting modes 1 and 3):
        The interior courtesy lights turn off after the last door is closed.

  1. Ensure that the ignition switch is in the LOCK position.
  2. Turn on the roof rail reading lamps.
  3. Turn the (IP) dimmer switch to the DOME position for at least 10 minutes.

The interior lights turn off when any of the interior lights are left on for more than 10 minutes with the ignition switch in the LOCK or the OFF position.

On vehicles with less than 15 miles (24 km) total accumulated miles (km), the interior lights turn off after 3 minutes instead of 10 minutes.

  1. Turn the ignition switch from the LOCK position to the RUN position, then back to the LOCK position.
  2. Open a vehicle door for at least 5 seconds, then close all of the vehicle doors.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position within 25 seconds of the last door being closed, while observing the interior courtesy lights.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  5. Open a vehicle door for at least 5  seconds, then close all of the vehicle doors.
  6. Press the lock on either power door lock switch within 25 seconds of the last door being closed, while observing the interior courtesy lights.
    • Interior lighting modes 2 and 4:
        The delayed illumination feature cancels (turns off the interior courtesy lights) when the ignition switch is turned to the RUN position.
        Or, when pressing the lock on either power door lock switch.
    • Interior lighting modes 1 and 3:
        The delayed illumination feature is disabled, so when the last door is closed, the interior courtesy lights deactivate.

  1. Close all of the vehicle doors.
  2. Turn the ignition switch from the LOCK to the RUN position, then back to the LOCK position.
  3. Remove the key from the ignition switch while observing the interior courtesy lights.
    • Exit lighting feature enabled (interior lighting modes 3 and 4):
        The interior courtesy lights activate for 25 seconds upon removing the key from the ignition switch.
    • Exit lighting feature disabled (interior lighting modes 1 and 2):
        The interior courtesy lights stay off upon removing the key from the ignition switch.

  1. Refer to Step 8 if the vehicle is not equipped with the content theft deterrent (RPO UA6).
  2. Ensure that the key is removed from the ignition switch.
  3. Lock and close all of the vehicle doors.
  4. Insert the key into the driver door lock.
  5. This test also works on the rear front door or the rear liftgate door lock.

  6. Turn and hold the key for 1 second in the unlock position in order to unlock the door.
  7. Perform this action while observing the interior courtesy lights.

The interior courtesy lights activate for 40 seconds upon unlocking the door with the key.

  1. Refer to Step 9 if the vehicle is not equipped with the keyless entry system (RPO UA6).
  2. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  3. Close all of the vehicle doors.
  4. Press the unlock button on the keyless entry transmitter while observing the interior courtesy lights.
  5. Wait 40 seconds.
  6. Press the unlock button on the keyless entry transmitter while observing the interior courtesy lights.
  7. Press the lock button on the keyless entry transmitter while observing the interior courtesy lights within 40 seconds.
    • The interior courtesy lights activate for 40 seconds after pressing the unlock button on the keyless entry transmitter.
    • During the 40 second illumination period, the interior courtesy lights deactivate when pressing the lock button on the keyless entry transmitter.

  1. Close all of the vehicle doors.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  3. Turn the switches for the windshield header courtesy/reading lamps off and on.
    • The windshield header courtesy/reading lamps turn on when the switches are activated.
    • The windshield header courtesy/reading lamps turn OFF when the switches are deactivated.

Turn the following roof rail/courtesy reading lamp switches off and on:

  1. The left front switch
  2. The left rear switch
  3. The right front switch
  4. The right rear roof rail courtesy/reading lamps.
    • Each roof rail courtesy/reading lamp turns on when its switch is activated.
    • Each roof rail courtesy/reading lamp turns off when its switch is deactivated.

Open and close the left and the right sunshade illuminated vanity mirror covers while observing the mirror lamps.

    • The left and the right sunshade illuminated vanity mirror lamps turn on with the mirror cover open.
    • The left and the right sunshade illuminated vanity mirror lamps turn off with the mirror cover closed.

Open and close the IP compartment while observing the IP compartment lamp.

    • The IP compartment lamp turns on when the IP compartment is open.
    • The IP compartment lamp turns off when the IP compartment is closed.

  1. Turn the IP dimmer switch to the DOME position.
  2. Turn on all of the roof rail reading lamps.
  3. Open the sunshade vanity mirror covers.
  4. Open the IP compartment door.
  5. Turn off the interior lamps override switch while observing the interior lights.

All interior lights turn off when the interior lamps override switch is deactivated.

The interior lamps override switch does not turn off the underhood lamp.
