Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 29843-9 Door Lock Striker and Seat Belt Torx® Wrench


    Object Number: 179355  Size: SH

    Important: The front passenger seat belt assembly attaches to the body side frame locking B-pillars.

  1. Unsnap the shoulder belt guide plastic cover (2).
  2. Remove the anchor nut from the upper guide loop on the front seat belt.
  3. Remove the center pillar upper trim panel. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
  4. Remove the center pillar lower trim panel. Center Pillar Lower Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
  5. Unsnap the plastic escutcheon (3) where the retractor side seat belt webbing exits the B-pillar trim.

  7. Use J 29843-9 in order to remove the bolt  (3) from the seat belt retractor (2).
  8. Remove the seat belt retractor from the B-pillar (1).
  9. Loosen the 2 front nuts securing the front seat to the floor.
  10. Remove the 2 rear nuts securing the front seat to the floor.

  12. Raise the rear of the seat in order to remove the retractor side seat belt anchor bracket (5) from the seat stud (4).
  13. Remove the push on the retainers (6) from the seat stud (4).
  14. Remove the retractor side belt (1) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the retractor side belt (1) to the vehicle.
  2. Install the anchor bracket (5) on the retractor side seat belt to the rear seat stud (4).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the nuts securing the lower anchor bracket for the front seat/retractor side seat belt (1) to the floor.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the anchor nut to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

  6. Install the seat belt retractor (2) to the B-pillar (1).
  7. Use J 29843-9 in order to install the retractor bolt (3).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 43 N·m (32 lb ft).

  9. Snap the plastic escutcheon (3) into the B-pillar trim where the retractor side seat belt webbing exits.
  10. Install the center pillar lower trim panels. Center Pillar Lower Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
  11. Install the center pillar upper trim panels. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
  12. Install the nut securing the anchor (2) for the seat belt upper guide loop to the B-pillar.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the anchor nut to 29 N·m (21 lb ft).

  14. Snap the plastic shoulder belt guide cover to the adjuster bracket (2).
