Check the vehicle for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

Are any DTCs present?

Go to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List in Engine Controls

Go to Step 2

  1. Disconnect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector C2.
  2. Connect a fused (3 amp) jumper between the PCM harness connector C2 terminal 5 and ground.

Is the SERVICE ENGINE SOON indicator on?

Go to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check in Engine Controls

Go to Step 3

Check for a poor connection or open in circuit 419.

Is there a poor connection or an open in circuit 419?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

Repair the poor connection or open in circuit 419.

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

--

System OK

  1. Check the SERVICE ENGINE SOON indicator bulb and bulb connection.
  2. If OK, replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
