Do the other gauges operate properly?

  1. Disconnect the PCM connector C2.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  3. Using a J 39200 DMM, measure the voltage between PCM connector C2 terminal 8 and ground.

Is the measured voltage within the specified value?

9 - 10 V

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Reconnect PCM connector C2.
  3. Install scan tool to DLC.
  4. Using aJ 39200 DMM, backprobe between instrument cluster connector C2 terminal H and ground.
  5. Start the engine and while observing the scan tool hold the engine to 1,000 RPM.
  6. Set the DMM, to the Hz scale.

Is the measured Hz within the specified value?

32 - 34 Hz

Using a J 39200 DMM, measure the voltage between the underhood accessory wiring junction block connector C1 terminal F6 and ground.

Is the measured voltage within the specified value?

9 - 10 V

Go to Step 5

Repair the open in circuit 121 between the PCM connector C2 terminal 8 and underhood accessory wiring junction block connector C1 terminal F6.

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

--

System OK

--

Using a J 39200 DMM, measure the voltage between the underhood accessory wiring junction block connector C2 terminal A6 and ground.

Is the measured voltage within the specified value?

9 - 10 V

Go to Step 7

Replace the underhood accessory wiring junction block. Refer to Relay/Fuse Center Replacement in Wiring Systems.

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

System OK

Using a J 39200 DMM, measure the voltage between the instrument cluster connector C2 terminal H and ground.

Is the measured voltage within the specified value?

9 - 10 V

Go to Step 9

Repair the open in circuit 121 between the instrument cluster connector C2 terminal H and the underhood wiring junction block connector C2 terminal A6.

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

System OK

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the instrument cluster connector C2.
  3. Using a test light, probe between battery positive and instrument cluster connector C2 terminal H.

Is the test light on?

--

Go to Step 11

Repair the short to ground in circuit 121 between the instrument cluster connector C2 terminal H and the PCM connector C2 terminal 8.

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

--

System OK

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
