Check the vehicle for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

Are there any DTCs present?

Do any of the shift select indicators illuminate properly?

Check the PRNDL ELEC Fuse for an open.

Is the PRNDL ELEC Fuse open?

Go to Step 4

Repair the short to ground in circuit 1020.

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

--

System OK

  1. Disconnect the instrument cluster connector C1.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  3. Using a J 39200 DMM, measure the voltage between the instrument cluster harness connector C1 terminal K and ground.

Is the measured voltage within the specified value?

9 - 14 V

Go to Step 7

Repair a poor connection or open in circuit 1020 between the fuse block terminal H10 and the instrument cluster harness connector C1 terminal K.

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

System OK

  1. Disconnect the instrument cluster connectors C1 and C2.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  3. While slowly moving the gear selector from PARK to L and back, make the following voltage checks:
  4. • Connector C1 terminal J to ground (circuit 771).
    • Connector C1 terminal C to ground (circuit 772).
    • Connector C1 terminal D to ground (circuit 776).
    • Connector C2 terminal M to ground (circuit 773).

Did all voltages switch from Low to High on all terminals at some point?

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

--

System OK

  1. If circuit 771 did not switch, repair the open between connector C1 terminal J and the underhood accessory wiring junction block connector C1 terminal F12.
  2. If circuit 772 did not switch, repair the open between connector C1 terminal C and the underhood accessory wiring junction block connector C1 terminal D10.
  3. If circuit 776 did not switch, repair the open between connector C1 terminal D and the underhood accessory wiring junction block connector C1 terminal F4.
  4. If circuit 773 did not switch, repair the open between connector C2 terminal M and the underhood accessory wiring junction block connector C1 terminal E6.

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

System OK
