Inspect the vehicle for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

Are any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) present?

Go to the Appropriate DTC Table

  1. Disconnect the generator connector.
  2. Install a fused (3 amp) jumper between the generator connector terminal B and ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Is the CHARGE warning ON?

Go to Step 3

Replace the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

  1. Disconnect the powertrain control module (PCM) connector 1.
  2. Install a fused (3 amp) jumper between the powertrain control module (PCM) connector C1 terminal 36 and ground.

Is the CHARGE warning ON?

--

Go to Step 5

  1. Inspect CKT 225 for an open between the PCM connector C2 terminal 61 and the generator connector terminal B.
  2. Replace the PCM if CKT 225 is OK. Refer to Powertrain Control Module Replacement/Programming in Engine Controls.

  1. Backprobe a fused (3 amp) jumper between the underhood accessory wiring junction block connector C1 terminal F5 and ground.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Is the CHARGE warning ON?

--

Go to Step 7

Repair the open in CKT 25 between the underhood accessory wiring junction block connector C1 terminal F5 and the PCM connector C1 terminal 36.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Charging System Check

  1. Backprobe a fused (3 amp) jumper between the underhood accessory wiring junction block connector C2 terminal A5 and ground.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Is the CHARGE warning ON?

Go to Step 9

Replace the underhood accessory wiring junction block. Refer to Relay/Fuse Center Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Go to Charging System Check

  1. Backprobe a fused (3 amp) jumper between the instrument cluster connector C2 terminal K and ground.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Is the CHARGE warning ON?

--

Repair the open in CKT 25 between the instrument cluster connector C2 terminal K and the underhood accessory wiring junction block connector C2 terminal A5.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Charging System Check

  1. Test the CHARGE warning bulb and the bulb connector.
  2. If the bulb and the bulb connector are OK, replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
