Preliminary Procedures

Warning: Gasoline or gasoline vapors are highly flammable. A fire could occur if an ignition source is present. Never drain or store gasoline or diesel fuel in an open container, due to the possibility of fire or explosion. Have a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby.

1. Remove the battery negative terminal connection. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
2. Remove the fuel pump. Refer to Fuel Pump Replacement
3. Release the electrical connectors.

Tip
The illustrations in this section show the fuel sender on the primary fuel pump only. The fuel sender on the secondary fuel pump is similar.

Caution: Use care while handling the fuel sender to prevent damage and incorrect fuel level readings.

Fuel Sender

Procedure

1. Press the locking tap by using a suitable tool such as a screwdriver.
2. Release the fuel feed and return pipes.
3. Remove the fuel sender assembly by sliding it out from the fuel pump.
