DTC Descriptor

DTC P0897: Transmission Fluid Life

Circuit/System Description

Transmission fluid life is determined by monitoring transmission fluid temperature over a period of time. The transmission control module (TCM) calculates transmission fluid life based on a set of temperature ranges stored in TCM memory.

Conditions for Running the DTC

No TFT DTC P0712

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The calculated transmission oil life remaining is less than 10 percent.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTC P0897 is a Type C DTC

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P0897 is a Type C DTC

Diagnostic Aids

    • Improper transmission cooling system may cause transmission fluid to age rapidly.
    • A malfunctioning TFT sensor may cause transmission fluid to age rapidly.

Circuit/System Verification

Observe the DTC information with the scan tool. Verify that the DTC is not set.

If DTC P0897 is set
    • Perform the Transmission Fluid Replacement procedure
    • Using a scan tool, reset the transmission oil life
