Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the exhaust front pipe. Refer to Front Pipe Replacement .
  3. Remove the transfer case. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
  4. Disconnect the wiring harness connector (1) from the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor (2).

    Important: Clean the area around the CKP sensor before removal to avoid debris from entering the engine.

  6. Remove the CKP sensor attaching bolt (1).
  7. Remove the CKP sensor (2), by first twisting the sensor to release it, and then pulling it away from the engine block to remove it.

Installation Procedure

  1. Lubricate the CKP sensor O-ring with clean engine oil.
  2. Reinstall the CKP sensor (2) by pushing down on the sensor to engage the sensor O-ring in the engine block.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

    Important: Ensure the CKP sensor is fully seated before tightening the attaching bolt to the specified torque.

  4. Install the CKP sensor attaching bolt (1).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the crankshaft position sensor attaching bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Connect the CKP sensor connector.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
