DTC Descriptors

DTC C0551 45: Option Configuration Error/Variant not programmed

DTC C0551 47: Option Configuration Error/VIN not programmed

Circuit/System Description

The electronic brake control module (EBCM) learns the model options that it is installed in by using the Vehicle ID information from the body control module (BCM) via the class 2 serial data line. Each time the vehicle is in the RUN position the BCM communicates this information via class 2. The EBCM internally compares the VIN and option information with that information stored in the BCM.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The ignition switch is in the ON position.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

C0551 45

The incorrect EBCM is installed on the vehicle.

C0551 47

The incorrect software or calibrations have been flash programmed into the EBCM.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

One or more of the following actions may occur:

    • The EBCM disables the ABS/traction control system (TCS) for the duration of the ignition cycle.
    • The ABS indicators turn ON.
    • The traction control indicator turns ON.
    • The red BRAKE Warning indicator turns ON.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The condition for the DTC is no longer present.
    • The EBCM automatically clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Verify that the EBCM is the correct module for the vehicle.
  2. If the EBCM is not correct, replace the EBCM.
    Reprogram the EBCM.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
