D.I.C. WARNING MESSAGE/OIL PRESS. GAGE SHOWS FULL PRESS.

1986-88 TORONADO

Some 1986-88 Toronados may exhibit a condition of oil pressure gage displaying full pressure, accompanied by a warning message on the driver information center, and a warning chime. BCM Code B132 will be stored in BCM Memory as a current or history code. The message displayed is "Electrical Problem - Press System Monitor - to Silence Chime".

This condition may be caused by an intermittent oil pressure sensor. The sensor may exhibit an open circuit to the BCM at key on, engine off. The condition occurs more frequently with a warm engine and may become more frequent with time and mileage.

To repair this condition use the following procedure:

1. Verify that campaign 87-C-03 has been completed on 1986 and 1987 vehicles before VIN HU305043. If the campaign has not been completed, perform campaign 87-C-03. NOTE: The campaign PROM has been superseded by new PROM's, refer to the table below. If the campaign has been performed and B132 problems are still present, proceed to Step 2.

2. On all vehicles check wiring and BCM-related causes of B132 by performing Code B132 diagnosis in Section 8D2 of the Chassis Service Manual. Check the sensor connector making sure the connector terminals are clean and tight and the connector weatherpak seals are all in place. If Code B132 is history or only occurs at key on, engine off, replace the oil pressure sensor, part number 1644131.

3. Check the PROM I.D. If the PROM I.D. is one for the old PROMs listed, replace with the proper new part number.

New PROM part numbers are as follows:

Old BCM New BCM Part PROM Part PROM Number I.D. Number I.D. ------ ----- ------ ---- 1986 (After Campaign 87-C-03) 1228416 6763 16124160 4163

1987 (Before VIN HU305043 16075597 5453 16124161 4173 and After Campaign) (After VIN HU305043)

1988 (Before VIN JU309680) 16080206 173 16121073 1053

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
