Important: Ensure that the power steering gear seals do not twist.

  1. Remove the small power steering gear seal clamp.
  2. Position the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.
  3. Loosen the hex nuts on the tie rod.
  4. Rotate the inner tie rod in order to obtain the proper toe angle. Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications .
  5. Verify that the number of threads showing on each tie rod is nearly equal.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Verify that the tie rod ends are square to the steering knuckle before tightening the hex nuts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the hex nuts at the tie rod ends to 68 N·m (50 lb ft).

  9. Verify that the power steering gear seals are not twisted.
  10. Install the power steering gear seal clamps.
