Definition: The BCM does not sound the reminder chime to fasten seat belts. Also, the BCM does not turn on the fasten-belts indicator lamp on the instrument cluster. The chime and the lamp are inoperative when turning the ignition switch from the LOCK position or from the OFF position to the RUN position when the driver's seat belt is unfastened.

Was the Body Control Module (BCM) System Check performed?

  1. Turn OFF the instrument panel dimmer switch.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  3. Remove the BCM PRGRM fuse.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position.
  5. The BCM sounds the chime a number of times equivalent to the BCM type installed on the vehicle.

    Within 1 second, turn the ignition switch from the ACC position to the LOCK position, then back to the ACC position.

    The BCM sounds any DTCs stored.

  6. Fasten the driver's seat belt and then release the driver's seat belt.

Does the chime sound once when you fasten the driver's seat belt?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Reinstall the BCM PRGRM fuse.
  3. Verify that the driver's seat belt is unfastened.
  4. While you observe the fasten belts indicator and while you listen to the chime, turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Did both of the following conditions occur?

    • The chime sounds for 4-8 seconds
    • The indicator lamp turns on for 63-77 seconds

  1. Unfasten the driver's seat belt.
  2. Using a test lamp, backprobe between B+ and the BCM connector C2 terminal D1.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Disconnect the electrical connector to the driver's seat belt switch.
  2. Using a test lamp, connect between B+ and the harness connector of the driver's seat belt switch terminal B (male side of the connector.)

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Using a J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM), measure the resistance between terminal A and terminal B of the driver's seat belt switch connector (the switch side).

Is the resistance measured less than the specified range?

2 ohms

A malfunction is not present at this time. Refer to Audible Warnings Circuit Description for additional information regarding the operation of the following warning devices:

    • Fasten-seat-belt reminder
    • Indicator lamp

  1. Inspect the BCM connector C2 terminal D1 for a poor connection.
  2. If the connection is OK, replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control Systems.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Reinstall the connectors and the components which you removed.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position for 6 seconds.
  4. Remove the BCM PRGRM fuse.
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position. The BCM sounds the chime several times equivalent to the BCM type which is installed on the vehicle.
  6. Within 1 second, turn the ignition switch from the ACC position to the LOCK position, then back to the ACC position. The BCM sounds any DTCs stored.

Are any BCM DTCs present?
