Definition: When you turn the ignition switch to the RUN position with the driver's seat belt fastened, the following conditions occur:

    • The BCM sounds the fasten-seat-belt reminder chime for 4-8 seconds.
    • The BCM illuminates the fasten-belts indicator lamp in the instrument cluster for 63-77 seconds.

Was the Body Control Module (BCM) System Check performed?

  1. Turn off the headlamp and IP lamp dimmer switch.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  3. Remove the BCM PRGRM Fuse.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position. The BCM sounds the chime a number of times equivalent to the BCM type installed on the vehicle. Refer to Body Control Module in Body Control Systems for more information.
  5. Within one second, turn the ignition switch from the ACC position to the LOCK position, then back to the ACC position. The BCM sounds any DTCs stored. Refer to Body Control Module in Body Control Systems for additional information.
  6. Fasten, then release the driver's seat belt.

Does the chime sound once upon fastening the driver's seat belt?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Reinstall the BCM PRGRM fuse.
  3. Unfasten the driver's seat belt.
  4. While observing the fasten belts indicator and listening to the chime, turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Did the fasten seat belt reminder chime sound for 4-8 seconds and did the indicator lamp turn on for 63-77 seconds?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Disconnect the BCM connector C2.
  3. Fasten the driver's seat belt.
  4. Using a J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM), backprobe between the BCM connector C2 terminal D1 and ground.

Is the resistance equal to the specified value?

infinite

Go to Step 7

  1. Leave the J 39200 DMM connected from the previous step.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector to the driver's seat belt switch.
  3. Using the J 39200 DMM, measure the resistance again.

Is the resistance equal to the specified value?

infinite

A malfunction is not present at this time. Refer to Audible Warnings Circuit Description for additional information regarding the operation of the following warning devices:

    • The fasten-seat-belt reminder chime
    • The fasten-seat-belt indicator lamp

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Reinstall the connectors and the components which you removed.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position for 6 seconds.
  4. Remove the BCM PRGRM fuse.
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position. The BCM sounds the chime several times equivalent to the BCM type which is installed on the vehicle.
  6. Within 1 second, turn the ignition switch from the ACC position to the LOCK position, then back to the ACC position. The BCM sounds any DTCs stored.

Are any BCM DTCs present?
