DEFINITION: The roof rail reading lamp does not activate when the following conditions exist:

    • The roof rail switch is turned on.
    • The interior lamps override switch is on (the courtesy lights are enabled).

Inspect the roof rail reading lamp bulb filament.

Is the roof rail reading lamp bulb filament open?

  1. Disconnect the roof rail reading lamp electrical connector.
  2. Turn the ignition switch from the LOCK position to the RUN position.
  3. Turn the instrument panel (IP) dimmer switch to the DOME position.
  4. Turn ON the interior lamps override switch (interior courtesy lights enabled).
  5. Use a test lamp in order to connect between the roof rail reading lamp harness connector terminal A and ground.

Did the test lamp light?

Use a test lamp in order to connect between the roof rail reading lamp harness connector terminal  A and B.

Did the test lamp light?

Replace the roof rail reading lamp bulb. Refer to Reading Lamp Bulb Replacement - Side Rail .

Is the repair complete?

Repair the following conditions in CKT 328:

    • A poor connection
    • An open

Replace the roof rail reading lamp assembly. Refer to Roof Side Rail Lamp Replacement .

Repair the following conditions in CKT 650:

    • A poor connection
    • An open

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Reinstall any connectors or components that you removed.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position for 6 seconds.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  5. Remove the BCM PRGRM fuse.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position.
  7. The BCM sounds the chime a number of times equivalent to the BCM type installed on the vehicle.

  8. Within 1 second, turn the ignition switch from the ACC position to the LOCK position, then back to the ACC position.
  9. The BCM sounds any DTCs stored.
