Notice: Proper stoplamp switch adjustment is essential. Improper stoplamp switch adjustment may cause brake drag, heat buildup and excessive brake lining wear.

Important: 

   • Adjust the stoplamp switch and cruise control release at the same time. The adjustment procedures for these switches are identical.
   • For cruise control release switch adjustment, refer to Cruise Control Release Switch Adjustment in Cruise Control.

  1. With the brake pedal fully released, ensure that the stoplamp plunger is fully depressed against the brake pedal shanks.

  2. Object Number: 180295  Size: SH
  3. Insert the stoplamp switch (1) and the cruise control switch (3) (if equipped) into the brake pedal bracket (2).

  4. Object Number: 179284  Size: SH
  5. Push the brake pedal forward in order to set the brake push rod into the booster.

  6. Object Number: 179286  Size: SH
  7. Pull the brake pedal to the rear, against the internal stop. The stoplamp switch and cruise control switch will be adjusted.
  8. Inspect the stoplamp switch for proper adjustment. In order to diagnose the stoplamp, refer to Brake Warning Systems in Electrical Diagnosis.
