Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 187281 Size: MH

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.
  2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the automatic level control air compressor filter (1) from the underbody rail by squeezing the clips on side of the filter and pulling the filter out of the hole in the rail.
  4. Remove the automatic level control air compressor filter hose from the clip on the electrical harness.
  5. Remove the bolt retaining the auto level control air compressor to the vehicle.
  6. Remove the nuts retaining the auto level control air compressor to the vehicle. Hang the auto level control air compressor from the vehicle by hook on the auto level control air compressor bracket (3).
  7. Remove the air line from the air dryer.
  8. Remove the vehicle electrical harness from the auto level control air compressor electrical connector.
  9. In order to disengage the bracket hook, remove the auto level control air compressor from the vehicle and rotate 90 degrees.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 187281 Size: MH
  1. Hang the auto level control air compressor to the vehicle using the hook on the auto level control air compressor bracket (3).
  2. Reconnect the vehicle electrical harness to the auto level control air compressor electrical connector.
  3. Install the air line to the air dryer.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the auto level control air compressor to the underbody with the nuts and bolts.
  6. Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

    Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

Important: In order to prevent water entry into the auto level control air compressor, snap the filter completely into the rail.

  7. Install the automatic level control air compressor filter (1) to the underbody rail.
  8. In order to clip on the electrical harness, install the automatic level control air compressor filter hose.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Reconnect the ground negative battery cable to the battery. Refer to
