Power Seats Circuit Description W/o A43

Power seats are optional. Power seats may be installed on the left seat only or on both front seats. The left power seat has an option code of AG1. The right power seat has an option code of AG2.

The following three reversible motors move each power seat:

    • Front vertical motor
    • Rear vertical motor
    • Horizontal motor

Oldsmobile power seats also have power recline. The power recline adjusts the angle of the seat back. This is controlled by a recline motor.

Battery positive voltage (B+) is supplied to the seat switches through the IP fuse block PWR STS circuit breaker 3 via CKT 1340 (ORN). The left seat switch receives ground from G202 via CKT 1250 (BLK). The right seat switch receives ground from G201 via CKT 1450 (BLK).

Move the seat switch in order to operate the horizontal motor. When the switch is held in the FORWARD position, battery positive voltage (B+) is applied through the forward switch contact to the horizontal motor. The motor is grounded through the back switch contact. The motor runs in order to drive the seat forward until the switch is released.

The BACK position works similar to the FORWARD position. However, the voltage polarity to the motor is reversed. This reversed polarity causes the motor to run in the opposite direction. This drives the seat backward.

The front and rear vertical motors work in a similar way to the horizontal motor when the front or rear vertical switch is operated. The front and rear of a seat are operated by different motors. The front and rear of a seat may be raised or lowered independently of each other. When the entire seat switch is pushed to the UP or DOWN position, both motors run to move the front and rear of the seat at the same time. In order to raise the entire seat, the entire seat switch is held in the UP position. This applies battery positive voltage (B+) to both the front and rear vertical motors. The motors are grounded through the switches not operated. Both motors run in order to drive the entire seat up. A similar action occurs in order to move the entire seat down.

The recline motor also works in a similar way to the front and rear vertical motors when the recline switch is operated. With the recline switch in the FORWARD position, battery positive voltage (B+) is applied through the recline forward contact to the recline motor. The motor is grounded through the recline back contact. The motor runs and the seat back moves forward. With the recline switch in the recline BACK position, battery positive voltage (B+) is applied to the seat recline motor through the recline back contact, and grounded through the forward contact. The motor runs in the opposite direction. The seat back reclines back.

Each motor contains an electronic circuit breaker (PTC). The PTC resets only after voltage is removed from the motor.

Power Seats Circuit Description Pontiac w/AL7

The sport seats incorporate a power adjust for the mechanical system used for controlling the comfort features of the seats by mechanically moving the seats and/or seat backs. The mechanical system consists of the following components:

    • Console seat switch
    • Seat control module
    • Seat motors (4 per seat)

The console seat switch contains 5 individual switches. The switches control the seat motors via the seat control module. The seat control module has 9 inputs from the console seat switch.

When the seat select switch is put in the LEFT position, the left/right select input to the seat control module is an open circuit. When the seat select switch is put in the RIGHT position, the left/right select input to the seat control module is grounded and ground is applied to all individual seat control switches. When one of these seat control switches is operated, the corresponding inputs to the seat control module are grounded. The seat control module then energizes its associated internal motor direction relays and motor control relays. Battery positive voltage (B+) is supplied to the appropriate seat motor and seat position is adjusted accordingly.
