Removal Procedure

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the IP assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Removal .

  3. Object Number: 469027  Size: SH
  4. Remove the fasteners (2) attaching the steering column support bracket brace (1) to the inner panel.
  5. Remove the fasteners retaining the steering column support brackets to the steering column support bracket brace.
  6. Remove the fasteners attaching the steering column support bracket brace (1) to the steering column support bracket (2).
  7. Remove the steering column support bracket brace (1) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 469027  Size: SH
  1. Install the steering column support bracket brace (1) to the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the fasteners (2) attaching the steering column support bracket brace to the steering column support bracket.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 7.5 N·m (53 lb in).

  5. Install the fasteners (2) attaching the steering column support bracket brace to the inner panel.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 8.5 N·m (75 lb in).

  7. Install the fasteners retaining the steering column support brackets to the steering column support bracket brace.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 9.5 N·m (84 lb in).

  9. Install the IP assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Removal .
  10. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
