Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement Buick

Removal Procedure

  1. Open the instrument panel (IP) compartment.
  2. Pull down the IP compartment stops. Allow the compartment to travel past the stops.
  3. Remove the rear compartment release enable switch/oil reset switch, if equipped. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Valet Lock Out Switch Replacement .
  4. Disengage the retainer fastening the electrical connector to the rear of the IP compartment.

  6. Remove the IP compartment light (1) from the IP compartment assembly.
  7. Close the IP compartment.

  9. Remove the fasteners (1) securing the IP compartment to the IP.
  10. Remove the IP storage compartment hinge trim (2).

  11. Open the IP compartment in order to remove the IP compartment.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 478470  Size: SH
  1. Install the IP compartment to the IP.
  2. Place the IP compartment in the closed position.

  3. Install the hinge trim (2) to the hinge.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the fasteners (1) in order to secure the IP compartment to the IP.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).

  7. Open the IP compartment.
  8. Pull down the IP compartment stops. Allow the compartment to travel past the stops.

  10. Install the IP compartment light (1) to the IP compartment.
  11. Connect the electrical connector retainer to the rear of the IP compartment.
  12. Install the rear compartment release enable switch/oil reset switch, if equipped. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Valet Lock Out Switch Replacement .
  13. Close the IP compartment.

  1. Remove the rear compartment release enable switch, if necessary. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Valet Lock Out Switch Replacement .
  2. Close the IP compartment.
  3. Remove the fasteners securing the IP compartment to the IP.
  4. Open the IP compartment in order to remove the IP compartment.

  1. Install the IP compartment.

Removal Procedure

  1. Open the instrument panel (IP) compartment door.

  2. Object Number: 324742  Size: SH
  3. Remove IP compartment insert fasteners (1).
  4. Remove the insert (2) by pulling rearward.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the IP compartment insert (2) to the IP.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
