J 37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the left side instrument panel insulator.
  2. Remove the left carpet retainer. Refer to Front Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  3. Pull back the carpet for access.
  4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  5. Object Number: 732929  Size: SH
  6. Relieve cable tension from the park brake system at the equalizer.

  7. Object Number: 717002  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the front cable (1) from the rear cable (3) at the connector clip (2).
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Disconnect the electrical connector at the parking brake switch.

  11. Object Number: 177091  Size: SH
  12. Remove the 3 park brake pedal assembly retaining nuts from the body mounting studs.

  13. Object Number: 788651  Size: SH
  14. Remove the retaining clip and disconnect the parking brake cable (1) from the park brake pedal assembly.
  15. Use the J 37043 in order to remove the cable from the pedal assembly.

  16. Remove the park brake pedal assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the park brake pedal assembly.

  2. Object Number: 788651  Size: SH
  3. Connect the park brake cable (1) to the park brake pedal assembly and install the retaining clip.

  4. Object Number: 177091  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the 3 park brake pedal assembly retaining nuts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  7. Connect the electrical connector to the parking brake switch.
  8. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  9. Object Number: 717002  Size: SH
  10. Connect the front cable (1) to the rear cable (3) at the connector clip (2).
  11. Adjust the park brake system. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Position the carpet in place.
  14. Install the left carpet retainer. Refer to Front Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  15. Install the left side instrument panel insulator.
