Attempt to operate the radio functions using the steering wheel control switches.

Do the steering wheel control switches operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Test the accessory voltage circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and repair the condition?

Caution: When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, you must disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

  1. Test the resistance of the left hand steering wheel control switches.
  2. Press the steering wheel control buttons to the correct function, one at a time, and compare the measured values to those shown.

Are all the resistances approximately equal to the specified values?

    • Volume Up: 1.27Kohms
    • Volume Down: 1.56Kohms
    • Seek Up: 3.1Kohms
    • Prog: 13.6Kohms

  1. Inspect for poor connections at the steering wheel control switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  2. If a poor connection is not found, replace the left steering wheel control switch. Refer to Steering Wheel Control Switches Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Test the steering wheel controls circuit for an open, short to ground, or a short to battery voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and repair the condition?

  1. Test for continuity in the accessory voltage circuit and the steering wheel controls circuit in the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil.
  2. If either of the circuits are open, replace the steering wheel module coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement in SIR.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Inspect for poor connections at the steering wheel control switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  2. If a poor connection is not found, service the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
