Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner element and cover. Refer to Air Cleaner Element Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 289623  Size: SH
  3. Remove the screws from the upper air cleaner housing (4) and remove the housing from the vehicle.
  4. Important: You do not need to disconnect the PCM wiring harness.

  5. Remove the powertrain control module (PCM) from the lower air cleaner housing.
  6. Pull the lower air cleaner housing from the rubber insulators.
  7. Remove any loose debris found laying in the base of the air cleaner.
  8. Inspect the air cleaner and replace if necessary.

Installation Procedure

  1. Press the lower air cleaner housing (4) into the rubber insulators.
  2. Install the powertrain control module (PCM) in the lower air cleaner housing.
  3. Align the upper air cleaner housing by inserting the tabs into the air cleaner lower housing.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the screws through the upper housing into the lower air cleaner housing.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the air cleaner housing screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  7. Install the air cleaner element and cover. Refer to Air Cleaner Element Replacement .
